Leo Tolstoy “Lion and the Dog”

In London, wild animals were shown, and for watching, they took money or dogs and cats to feed wild animals.

One person wanted to look at the animals: he grabbed a little dog on the street and brought her to the menagerie. He was allowed to watch, and the little dog was taken and thrown into a cage to a lion for eating.

The dog pulled its tail and snuggled into the corner of the cage. The lion went up to her and sniffed her.

The dog lay on its back, raised its legs and began to wave its tail.

Leo touched her paw and turned it over.

The dog jumped up and stood in front of the lion on its hind legs.

Leo looked at the dog, turned his head from side to side and did not touch her.

When the owner threw the meat to the lion, the lion tore off a piece and left it to the dog.

In the evening, when the lion went to bed, the dog lay beside him and laid her head on his paw.

Since then, the dog lived in the same cage with a lion, the lion did not touch her, ate food, slept with her, and sometimes played with her.

Once the master came to the menagerie and recognized his dog; he said that the dog was his own, and asked the owner of the menagerie to give him back. The owner wanted to give, but as soon as they began to call the dog to take it out of the cage, the lion bristled and growled.

So the lion and the dog lived for a year in one cage.

A year later, the dog fell ill and died. The lion stopped eating, and sniffed everything, licked the dog and touched it with his paw.

When he realized that she was dead, he suddenly jumped up, bristled, began to whip himself with his tail on the sides, threw himself on the wall of the cage and began to gnaw the bars and the floor.

He fought all day, darted about in a cage and roared, then lay down beside a dead dog and fell silent. The owner wanted to carry the dead dog, but the lion did not let anyone in to it.

The owner thought that the lion would forget his grief if he was given another dog, and put a living dog in his cage; but the lion immediately tore it to pieces. Then he put his arms around the dead dog and lay there for five days.

On the sixth day, the lion died.

Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy “Bird”

There was Seryozha’s birthday boy, and many different gifts were given to him; and tops, and horses, and pictures. But Uncle Seryozha gave the net more than all the gifts to catch birds.

The mesh is made so that a plate is attached to the frame, and the mesh is folded down. Put the seed on the board and put it on the yard. A bird will fly in, sit on a board, the board will turn up and slam itself.

Serezha was delighted, he ran to his mother to show the net. Mother says:

- Not a good toy. What are you birds for? Why will you torture them?

“I'll put them in cells.” They will sing, and I will feed them.

He took out a seed, put it on a plank and put a net in the garden. And everything stood, waiting for the birds to arrive. But the birds were afraid of him and did not fly onto the net. Seryozha went to dinner and left the net. He looked after dinner, the net slammed shut, and a bird beats under the net, Seryozha was delighted, caught the bird and carried it home.

- Mum! Look, I caught a bird, it’s true a nightingale! And how his heart beats!

Mother said:

- This is a siskin. Look, don’t torture him, but rather let him go,

- No, I will feed and drink it.

Seryozha planted a siskin in a cage and for two days he poured seed for him, and put water and cleaned the cage. On the third day, he forgot about the siskin and did not change the water. Mother tells him:

- You see, you forgot about your bird, better let it go.

- No, I won’t forget, I’ll put the water in and clean the cage.

Seryozha thrust his hand into the cage, began to clean, and the little fright was frightened, beating on the cage. Sergei cleaned the cage and went to get water. Mother saw that he had forgotten to close the cage, and shouted to him:

- Seryozha, close the cage, otherwise your bird will fly out and die!

Before she had time to say, the chizhik found the door, was delighted, spread its wings and flew through the room to the window. Yes, I did not see the glass, hit the glass and fell on the windowsill.

Seryozha came running, took a bird, carried it into a cage. Chizhik was still alive, but lay on his chest, with his wings spread, and was breathing heavily. Sergei looked, looked and began to cry:

- Mum! What should I do now?

- Now you can’t do anything.

Seryozha did not leave the cage all day and looked at the chizhik, while the chizhik still lay on his chest and was breathing heavily and soon. When Seryozha went to bed, the siskin was still alive. Serezha could not fall asleep for a long time; every time he closed his eyes, he imagined a little fawn, how he lies and breathes.

In the morning, when Seryozha approached the cage, he saw that the siskin was already on the back, he pressed his legs and was numb. Since then, Sergei never caught birds.

Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev "Sparrow"

I returned from the hunt and walked along the alley of the garden. The dog ran ahead of me.

Suddenly she took her steps and began to sneak, as though smelling game in front of her.

I glanced along the alley and saw a young sparrow with yellowness near the beak and fluff on my head. He fell from the nest (the wind shook the birch trees of the alley) and sat motionless, helplessly spreading its wings that had barely sprouted.

My dog \u200b\u200bwas slowly approaching him, when suddenly, tearing himself from a nearby tree, an old black-breasted sparrow fell in stone before its very face - and all disheveled, distorted, with a desperate and miserable squeak, jumped two times in the direction of a toothy open mouth.

He rushed to save, he overshadowed his brainchild ... but his whole small body trembled with horror, his voice went wild and hoarse, he froze, he sacrificed himself!

What a huge monster a dog should have seemed to him! Nevertheless, he could not sit on his high, safe branch ... A force stronger than his will threw him from there.

My Trezor stopped, backed away ... It was evident, and he recognized this power. I hastened to recall the embarrassed dog and left, awed.

Yes, do not laugh. I was awed by that small, heroic bird, before her love rush.

Love, I thought, is stronger than death and the fear of death. Only by it, only by love is life held and moving.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov "White-faced"

The hungry wolf got up to go hunting. Her cubs, all three, slept soundly, huddled together, and warmed each other. She licked them and went.

It was already the spring month of March, but at night the trees cracked from the cold, as in December, and as soon as you stuck out your tongue, it began to pinch heavily. She was in poor health, suspicious; she shuddered at the slightest noise and thought about how at home who would not offend the wolf cubs without her. The smell of human and horse tracks, stumps, stacked firewood and a dark manmade road scared her; it seemed to her as if people were standing behind the trees in the dark and somewhere, dogs were howling behind the forest.

She was no longer young, and her instinct was weakened, so that, sometimes, she mistook the fox track for a dog and sometimes even, deceived by her instinct, lost her way, which had never happened to her in her youth. Due to poor health, she no longer hunted calves and large rams, as before, and already far went around horses with foals, and ate only carrion; she had to eat fresh meat very rarely, only in the spring, when she wandered onto a hare and robbed her of her children or climbed up to the peasants in the stable where the lambs were.

About four miles from her lair, by the postal road, there was a winter hut. Here lived watchman Ignat, an old man of about seventy who coughed and talked to himself; he usually slept at night, and wandered through the woods with a single-barreled gun during the day and whistled at the hares. He must have served in mechanics before, because every time before stopping he shouted to himself: “Stop, car!” and before we go any further: “Full speed!” Under him was a huge black dog of unknown breed, named Arapka. When she ran far ahead, he shouted to her: "Reverse!" Sometimes he sang and at the same time he staggered and often fell (the she-wolf thought it was from the wind) and shouted: “I went off the rails!”

Volchikha remembered that a sheep and two were grazing near the winter hut in the summer and autumn, and when she ran past not so long ago, she heard it as if they were bleating in a stable. And now, approaching the hibernation, she thought that it was already March and, judging by the time, lambs should certainly be in the stable. She was tormented by hunger, she thought about how greedily she would eat a lamb, and from such thoughts her teeth clicked and her eyes glowed in the darkness, like two lights.

The hut of Ignat, his barn, shed and well were surrounded by high snowdrifts. It was quiet. The little rape must have slept under the barn.

In the snowdrift, the wolf climbed to the stable and began to rake thatched roof with its paws and muzzle. The straw was rotten and loose, so that the she-wolf almost fell through; it suddenly smelled of warm steam and the smell of manure and sheep’s milk right in the face. Below, feeling the cold, gently bleached the lamb. Jumping into the hole, the she-wolf fell with her forepaws and breasts onto something soft and warm, it must have been a ram, and at that time something suddenly screeched, barked and burst into a thin howling voice, the sheep shied away against the wall, and the wolf , frightened, she grabbed that the first fell into her teeth, and rushed out ...

She fled, straining her strength, and at that time Arapka, already sensing a wolf, howled frantically, worried hens cackled in the winter hut, and Ignat, going out onto the porch, shouted:

- Full speed! Went to the whistle!

And he whistled like a car, and then - hoo-hoo-hoo! .. And all this noise echoed the forest echo.

When all this calmed down little by little, the she-wolf calmed down a little and began to notice that her prey, which she held in her teeth and dragged in the snow, was heavier and seemed harder than the lambs usually at this time; and it smelled differently, and some strange sounds were heard ... Volchikha stopped and laid her burden on the snow to rest and start eating, and suddenly jumped away in disgust. It was not a lamb, but a puppy, black, with a large head and high legs, of a large breed, with the same white spot on its entire forehead, like Arapka’s. Judging by the manners, it was an ignoramus, a simple cur. He licked his rumpled, wounded back and, as if nothing had happened, waved his tail and barked at the she-wolf. She growled like a dog and ran away from him. He is behind her. She looked back and snapped her teeth; he stopped in bewilderment and, probably, having decided that she was playing with him, extended his muzzle towards wintering and burst into a resounding, joyful bark, as if inviting his mother Arapka to play with him and the wolf.

It was already dawn, and when the she-wolf made her way to her thick aspen, each aspen was clearly visible, and the black grouse woke up and often beautiful roosters fluttered, concerned about the careless jumping and barking of the puppy.

“Why is he running after me? The wolf thought with annoyance. “He must want me to eat it.”

She lived with cubs in a shallow pit; three years ago, during a severe storm, a tall old pine tree was uprooted, which caused this pit to form. Now at the bottom of it were old leaves and moss, bones and bull horns, which were played by wolf cubs, were lying right there. They had already woken up, and all three, very similar to each other, were standing nearby on the edge of their pit and, looking at the returning mother, waved their tails. Seeing them, the puppy stopped at a distance and looked at them for a long time; noticing that they, too, were watching him closely, he began to bark at them angrily, as at strangers.

The sun had already dawned and the sun had risen, the snow flashed all around, and he still stood at a distance and barked. Wolfs sucked their mother, shoving her paws into her skinny belly, and at that time she gnawed a horse’s bone, white and dry; hunger tormented her, her head ached from a dog barking, and she wanted to rush at the uninvited guest and tear him apart.

Finally the puppy got tired and hoarse; seeing that they were not afraid of him and did not even pay attention to him, he became timid, now crouching, now jumping, approaching the wolf cubs. Now, in the daylight, it was easy to see it. His white forehead was large, and on the forehead a tubercle, which happens with very stupid dogs; his eyes were small, blue, dull, and the expression of the whole face was extremely stupid. Going up to the wolf cubs, he extended forward wide legs, laid his face on them and began:

- Me, me ... nga-nga-nga! ..

The wolves did not understand anything, but waved their tails. Then the puppy hit the paw of one wolf cub on the big head. The cub also hit him on the head with its paw. The puppy stood sideways towards him and squinted at it, wagging its tail, then suddenly darted off and did a few laps on the crust. The wolves chased him, he fell on his back and lifted his legs up, and the three of them attacked him and, screaming with delight, began to bite him, but not in pain, but as a joke. The crows sat on a tall pine tree and looked down at their struggle. And they were very worried. It became noisy and fun. The sun was already baking in the spring; and the roosters, now and then flying over a pine tree tumbled down by a storm, seemed to be emerald when the sun shone.

Usually wolves teach their children to hunt, letting them play with prey; and now, watching the wolf cubs chasing the puppy across the crust and fighting with it, the wolf thought: “Let them get used to it.”

Having played enough, the wolf cubs went into the pit and went to bed. The puppy started a little hungry, then also stretched out in the sun. And waking up, they began to play again.

All day and evening, the she-wolf remembered how the lamb bleated in the stable last night and how it smelled of sheep’s milk, and from appetite, she clicked her teeth and did not cease to gnaw the old bone with greed, imagining herself that it was a lamb. The wolves sucked, and the puppy who wanted to eat ran around and sniffed the snow.

“Take it off ...” the wolf decided.

She approached him, and he licked her in the face and whined, thinking that she wanted to play with him. In the old days, she was eating dogs, but the puppy smelled strongly of dog, and, due to poor health, she no longer tolerated this smell; she felt disgusted, and she stepped away ...

It got colder by night. The puppy missed you and went home.

When the wolf cubs fell sound asleep, the wolf went hunting again. Like last night, she was alarmed by the slightest noise, and she was scared of stumps, firewood, dark, lonely bushes of juniper, from a distance looking like people. She ran away from the road, on the crust. Suddenly far ahead on the road, something dark flashed ... She strained her eyes and ears: in fact, something was ahead, and even measured steps were heard. Is it a badger? She carefully, breathing a little, taking everything aside, overtook the dark spot, looked back at him and recognized. It was not hurrying, with a step a puppy with a white forehead was returning to his winterhouse.

“No matter how he interferes with me again,” the wolf thought, and quickly ran forward.

But the winter hut was already close. She climbed again to the barn in the snowdrift. Yesterday’s hole was already covered with spring straw, and two new slugs stretched along the roof1. Volchikha began to quickly work with her legs and face, looking around to see if the puppy was coming, but she hardly smelled of warm steam and the smell of manure, when a joyful, flooded bark was heard from behind. This is a puppy back. He jumped to the wolf to the roof, then into the hole and, feeling at home in the heat, recognizing his sheep, barked even louder ... The little girl woke up under the barn and, sensing the wolf, howled, the hens cried, and when Ignat appeared on the porch with its single-barrel, the frightened she-wolf was already far from the hibernation.

- Fute! - whistled Ignat. - Fute! Drive at full speed!

He pulled the trigger - the gun misfired; he lowered again - again a misfire; he pulled it down a third time - and a huge sheaf of fire flew out of the trunk, and a deafening “bu! boo!". He was strongly given in the shoulder; and, taking a gun in one hand and an ax in the other, he went to see why the noise ...

A little later he returned to the hut.

“Nothing ...” Ignat answered. - An empty matter. Our White-faced with sheep fell asleep, warm. Only there is no such thing as a door, but he strives for everything in the roof.

- Stupid.

- Yes, the spring in the brain has burst. Death do not like stupid! Ignat sighed, climbing onto the stove. - Well, man of God, it's too early to get up, let's sleep in full swing ...

And in the morning he called Belolobogo to him, painfully tearing him by the ears and then, punishing him with twig, he condemned everything:

- Go to the door! Go to the door! Go to the door!

Mikhail Prishvin “Lisichkin bread”

Once I walked in the woods all day and in the evening I returned home with rich booty. He took off his heavy bag and began to lay out his good on the table.

- What is this bird? - asked Zinochka.

“Terenty,” I answered.

And he told her about the black grouse: how he lives in the forest, how he mumbles in the spring, how he bites birch buds, picks berries in the swamps in the autumn, heats himself in the winter from the wind in the snow. He also told her about the hazel grouse, showed her that he was gray, with a crest, and he whistled in the pipe like a mountain ash and gave her a whistle. I also poured a lot of porcini mushrooms on the table, both red and black. I also had in my pocket a bloody berry of a bone, and blue blueberries, and red lingonberries. I also brought a fragrant ball of pine resin with me, gave it to the girl to sniff, and said that trees are treated with this tar.

“Who is treating them there?” - asked Zinochka.

“They treat themselves,” I answered. - A hunter will come, it happens, he wants to rest, he will stick an ax in a tree and hang a bag on the ax, and he himself will lie under the tree. Sleep, rest. He will take an ax out of a tree, put on a bag, leave. And this fragrant tar will run from a wound from an ax from a tree and tighten this wound.

Also on purpose for Zinochka I brought various wonderful herbs on a leaf, on a spine, on a flower: cuckoo's tears, valerian, Peter cross, hare cabbage. And just under the rabbit cabbage a piece of black bread was lying with me: it always happens to me that when I don’t take bread into the forest, I’m hungry, but when I take it, I forget to eat it and bring it back. And Zinochka, when she saw brown bread under my rabbit cabbage, she froze:

- Where did this bread come from in the forest?

- What is so surprising? After all, there is cabbage there!

- Hare ...

- And the bread is chanterelle. Taste it.

Gently tried and began to eat:

- Good chanterelle bread!

And she ate all my black bread clean. And so it went with us: Zinochka, such a kopulia, often doesn’t take white bread, but as I bring the chanterelle bread from the forest, I will always eat it and praise him:

- Lisichkin bread is much better than ours!

Mikhail Prishvin "Inventor"

In a swamp on a hummock beneath a willow, wild cracked ducklings hatched. Soon after, their mother led them to the lake along a cow trail. I noticed them from afar, hid behind a tree, and the ducklings came to my very feet. I took three of them to my upbringing, the remaining sixteen went further along the cow path.

I kept these black ducklings in my house, and soon they all became gray. After from the gray one came a handsome multi-colored drake and two ducks, Dusya and Musya. We cut their wings so that they would not fly away, and they lived in our yard with poultry: we had chickens and geese.

With the onset of the new spring, we arranged for our savages from all kinds of rubbish in the basement bumps, as in a swamp, and nests on them. Dusya laid sixteen eggs in her nest and began to hatch ducklings. Musya put fourteen, but did not want to sit on them. No matter how we fought, an empty head did not want to be a mother.

And we planted our important black chicken - Queen of Spades on duck eggs.

The time has come, our ducklings have hatched. We kept them in the kitchen for some time, warm, crushed them eggs, looked after them.

A few days later, very nice, warm weather came, and Dusya led her little black ones to the pond, and her Queen of Spades - to the garden for worms.

- Hang on, hang on! - ducklings in the pond.

- Crack crack! - the duck answers them.

- Hang on, hang on! - ducklings in the garden.

“Kwoch-kwoch!” - the chicken answers them.

Ducklings, of course, cannot understand what “kvokh-kvokh” means, and what they hear from the pond is well known to them.

“Svish-svis” - this means: “their to their own.”

And “crack-crack” means: “you are ducks, you are mallards, swim soon!”

And they, of course, look there, to the pond.

- Yours to yours!

- Swim, swim!

And they are floating.

“Kwoch-kwoch!” - an important chicken rests on the shore. They all swim and swim. They whistled, joined, joyfully accepted them into their family Dusya; according to Musa they were her nephews.

All day a large prefabricated duck family swam on a pond, and all day the Queen of Spades, fluffy, angry, croaked, grumbled, dug worms on the shore with her foot, tried to attract ducklings with worms and croaked them that there were so many worms, such good ones worms!

- Crap, crap! Mallard answered her.

And in the evening she led all her ducklings with one long rope along a dry path. Under the very nose of an important bird they passed, black, with large duck noses; not even one looked at such a mother.

We all gathered them in one high basket and left to spend the night in a warm kitchen near the stove.

In the morning, while we were still sleeping, Dusya got out of the basket, walked around on the floor, screaming, calling ducklings to her. At thirty voices, whistlers answered her scream.

The walls of our house, made of sonorous pine forest, responded in their own way to the duck cry. And yet in this mess we heard separately the voice of one duckling.

- Do you hear? I asked my guys. They listened.

- We hear! They shouted. And we went into the kitchen.

There, it turned out, Dusya was not alone on the floor. A duckling ran beside her, very worried and constantly whistled. This duckling, like all others, was the size of a small cucumber. How could such a warrior climb a wall of a basket thirty centimeters high?

We began to speculate about this, and a new question arose: did the duckling himself think of any way to get out of the basket after his mother, or did she accidentally touch him somehow with her wing and throw it away? I tied the leg of this duckling with a ribbon and put it into the general herd.

We slept at night, and in the morning, as soon as there was a duck morning cry in the house, we went into the kitchen.

A duckling with a bandaged foot was running on the floor with Dusya.

All the ducklings enclosed in the basket whistled, were eager for freedom and could not do anything. This one got out.

I said:

- He came up with something.

- He is an inventor! - shouted Lyova.

Then I decided to see how

in the same way, this “inventor” solves the most difficult task: climb his steep wall on his duck webbed feet. I got up the next morning before the light, when both my guys and the ducklings were sleeping soundly. In the kitchen, I sat near the switch, so that immediately, when necessary, give light and consider events in the depths of the basket.

And now the window went white. It was getting light.

- Crack crack! - said Dusya.

- Hang on, hang on! - answered the only duckling. And everything froze. The guys were sleeping, the ducklings were sleeping. There was a beep in the factory. The light increased.

- Crack crack! - repeated Dusya.

No one answered. I understood: there is no time for the “inventor” now - now, probably, he is solving his most difficult task. And I turned on the light.

Well, so I knew! The duck had not yet risen, and her head was still flush with the edge of the basket. All the ducklings slept warmly under their mothers, only one, with a bandaged paw, crawled out and climbed up mother’s feathers like bricks up to her back. When Dusya stood up, she raised him high, to a level with the edge of the basket. Along her back, a duckling, like a mouse, ran to the edge - and somersault down! Following him, the mother also fell to the floor, and the usual morning mess began: a scream, a whistle on the whole house.

Two days later, three ducklings appeared on the floor at once, then five, and off and on: as soon as Dusya grunts in the morning, all the ducklings are on her back and then roll down.

And the first duckling, who paved the way for others, was called by my children the Inventor.

Mikhail Prishvin "Guys and Ducklings"

The little wild duck, the teal whistle, finally decided to transfer its ducklings from the forest, bypassing the village, to the lake to freedom. In the spring, this lake was far overflowing, and a solid place for a nest could be found only three versts away, on a hummock, in a swampy forest. And when the water subsided, I had to travel all three miles to the lake.

In places open to the eyes of humans, foxes and hawks, the mother walked behind so as not to let the ducklings out of sight for a minute. And near the forge, when crossing the road, she, of course, let them go forward. Here the guys saw them and threw their hats. All the time, while they were catching ducklings, the mother ran after them with an open beak or flew in different directions for several steps in the greatest excitement. The guys were just about to throw their hats over their mother and catch her like ducklings, but then I came up.

- What will you do with ducklings? I asked the guys sternly.

They scared and answered:

- Let's go.

- That's something "let go"! I said very angrily. “Why did you have to catch them?” Where is mother now?

- And there he is! - the guys answered in unison.

And they pointed me to the close mound of the steam field, where the duck really sat with its mouth open with excitement.

“Alive,” I ordered the children, “go and return all the ducklings to her!”

It was as if they even rejoiced at my order, straight and ran with ducklings to the hill. Mother flew away a little and, when the guys left, rushed to save her sons and daughters. In her own way, she quickly said something to them and ran to the oat field. Five ducklings ran after her. And so in the oat field, bypassing the village, the family continued their journey to the lake.

I joyfully took off my hat and, waving it, shouted:

- Happy journey, ducklings!

The guys laughed at me.

- What are you laughing, silly? I said to the guys. “Do you think it’s so easy for ducklings to get into the lake?” Take off all the hats lively, shout "goodbye"!

And the same caps, dusted on the road when catching ducklings, rose into the air; all at once the guys cried out:

- Goodbye, ducklings!

Mikhail Prishvin “Chicken on the Pillars”

In the spring, the neighbors gave us four goose eggs, and we planted them in the nest of our black chicken, nicknamed the Queen of Spades. The set days passed for hatching, and the Queen of Spades brought out four yellow geese. They squealed, whistled in a completely different way than chickens, but the Queen of Spades, important, scruffy, did not want to notice anything and treated the goslings with the same maternal care as the chickens.

Spring has passed, summer has come, dandelions have appeared everywhere. Young geese, if their necks are extended, become almost taller than their mother, but still follow her. It happens, however, that the mother digs up the earth with her paws and calls the geese, and they do dandelions, stick their noses and let the fluffs downwind. Then the Queen of Spades begins to glance in their direction, it seems to us, with some suspicion. It happens that for hours it is fluffy, with a clatter, she digs, but at least something: they just whistle and peck green grass. It happens that a dog wants to go somewhere past her, where is it! He will throw himself at the dog and drive him away. And then he will look at the geese, sometimes he will look thoughtfully ...

We began to monitor the chicken and wait for such an event, after which she finally realized that her children didn’t even look like chickens and that because of them, at the risk of her life, she would rush to the dogs.

And then one day in our yard an event happened. A sunny June day came full of the aroma of flowers. Suddenly the sun went dark and the rooster cried out.

“Kwoch, kwoch!” - the chicken answered the rooster, inviting her goslings under a canopy.

“Father, what a cloud he finds!” - the housewives shouted and rushed to save the hung clothes. Thunder struck, lightning flashed.

“Kwoch, kwoch!” Insisted the Queen of Spades chicken. And the young geese, lifting their necks high, like four pillars, went for a chicken under a canopy. It was amazing for us to watch how, at the order of the hen, four decent, tall, like the hen, the little geese folded into small things, crawled under the hen, and, having fluffed her feathers, spreading her wings above them, she covered them and darkened with her maternal warmth.

But the thunderstorm was short-lived. A cloud poured, left, and the sun shone again over our little garden.

When different birds stopped pouring and sang, the goslings heard it under the chicken, and they, the young ones, of course, wanted to be free.

- To freedom, to freedom! They whistled.

“Kwoch, kwoch!” - answered the chicken.

And that meant:

- Sit a bit, still very fresh.

- Here's another! - goslings whistled. - To freedom, to freedom!

And suddenly they rose on their feet and raised their necks, and the chicken rose, as on four pillars, and swayed in the air high from the ground.

And from this moment everything ended at the Queen of Spades with geese: she began to walk separately, and geese separately; it is clear that only she understood everything, and the second time she no longer wanted to get on the pillars.

Evgeny Charushin

When Tyupa is very surprised or sees something incomprehensible and interesting, he moves his lips and speaks: “Tyup-tyup-tyup-tyup ...” The grass moved from the wind, the bird fly, the butterfly fluttered, - Tyupa crawls, creeps closer and tupa: “Tyup-tyup -type-tyup ... grabbing! I say! Catch! Play! "That's why Tupu was nicknamed Tupa."

It is remarkable that DETGIZ published Brandt's book in such a worthy setting. Strict and graceful illustrations of the famous graphic artist Klim Lee perfectly convey the mood and character of his stories.

In late April, the she-wolf climbed under a tree and did not appear for a long time. The wolf lay down nearby, laying its heavy head on its paws, and waited patiently. He heard how the she-wolf fumbled under the tree for a long time, raking the peat in its paws and, finally, calmed down. The wolf closed his eyes and remained lying.
An hour later, the she-wolf was again brought under the tree, the wolf opened his eyes and listened. It seemed that the she-wolf was trying to budge the tree and grunted with effort, then she calmed down, and after a minute she began to eagerly lap something and at the same time she heard a faint, barely audible squeak.
Hearing this new voice, the wolf trembled and cautiously, on his stomach, as if he had just been born into the light and still could not walk, crawled to the hole and stuck his face into the hole.
The she-wolf stopped licking the first-born and, growling, snapped her teeth. The wolf quickly leaned back and lay back on its place. Soon the she-wolf was again brought in, a new squeak was heard and, licking the second cub, her mother blurted her tongue.
These sounds were repeated many more times, and the gaps between them all lengthened.
But the wolf patiently lay beside him, like a petrified one, only each time his ears trembled intensely on his heavy head. His eyes were open, looking somewhere at one point, and it seemed that they were seeing something there, which made them thoughtful and stopped mowing.
When all the sounds subsided under the tree, the wolf lay still for a little while, then got up and set off for fishing. ”

Daniel Pennak

Daniel Pennak believes that "books are always better than authors." We believe Pennak's books for children are simply excellent. In the stories of the French writer, children and animals always go side by side. In the story Dog Dog, a homeless dog re-educates a spoiled, insensitive girl; in the story Eye of the Wolf, the boy Africa reconciles the wolf with the world of people. Pennak makes no distinction between animal and human. The formula "Man is the king of nature" after reading his stories seems to be the greatest misconception.

The boy stands in front of the wolf aviary and does not move. The wolf goes back and forth. He steps back and forth and does not stop. "How does he annoy me ..."
That's what the wolf thinks. For already two hours, the boy is standing here behind bars, motionless, like a frozen tree, watching the wolf walk.
“What does he want from me?”
This is the question that the wolf asks himself. This boy is a mystery to him. Not a threat (the wolf is not afraid of anything), but a mystery.
“What does he want from me?”
Other children run, jump, shout, cry, they show the wolf tongue and hide behind the skirts of their mothers. Then they go to grimace in front of the gorilla’s cage and growl at the lion, which in response hits its tail. But this boy is not. He stands silently, motionless. Only his eyes move. They follow the wolf back and forth along the trellis.
"Have you never seen a wolf?"
Wolf - he sees the boy only once.
This is because he, the wolf, has only one eye. He lost the second in a battle with people ten years ago when he was caught. ”

Ernest Seton-Thompson

Ernest Seton-Thompson can rightly be called the founder of the literary genre of animals. And in any case, its influence on animal writers is difficult to overestimate. As well as a huge influence on the inquisitive minds of young naturalists.
You need to go through Seton-Thompson as you go through other childhood trials: the first jump from the garage or the first fight. This is the line marking the beginning of growing up, knowing the world and oneself.
Adults who did not happen to read Seton-Thompson in adolescence reproach him for cruelty, in the absence of humanism. But are the children humane? The children are kind, because when they read Lobo, The Royal Analostanka and The Mustang Ambler, they sincerely cry and laugh, and are not terrified.

The whole day passed in futile attempts. The Mustang pacifier - it was he - did not let his family go from him and with it disappeared among the southern sand hills.
The frustrated pastoralists headed home on their soiled horses, vowing to avenge the culprit of their failure.
A large black horse with a black mane and shining greenish eyes autocratically disposed throughout the district and increased his retinue, dragging mares from different places with him, until his herd reached at least twenty goals.
Most of the mares who followed him were quiet, seedy horses, and among them stood out those nine thoroughbred mares, whose first black horse led away.
This herd was guarded so vigorously and jealously that any mare that once got into it could already be considered irretrievably lost for the herder, and the herders themselves very soon realized that the mustang, who settled in their area, caused them too much loss. "

Despite the seemingly rather prosaic plots, the doctor’s attitude towards the four-legged patients and their owners - sometimes warm and lyrical, then sarcastic - is conveyed very subtly, with great humanity and humor.
In his "Notes of a Veterinarian" he shares with readers his memories of episodes encountered in his practice.

When the gate fell on me, with all my being I realized that I had really returned home.
My thoughts were easily transferred through a short period of service in aviation to the day when I last visited Mr. Ripley’s farm - “pinch a couple of calves”, as he put it on the phone, or rather, to lavish them with a bloodless method. Goodbye morning
Trips to Anson Hall have always been reminiscent of hunting expeditions in African wilds. A broken country road, consisting of only potholes and potholes, led to the old house. He wound through the meadows from gate to gate - there were seven in all.
The gate is one of the gravest curses in the life of a rural veterinarian, and before the appearance of horizontal metal bars for impassable cattle, we in the Yorkshire hills especially suffered from them. On the farms there were usually no more than three, and we somehow endured. But seven! And at Ripley's farm, it was not even the number of gates, but their treachery.
The first ones, blocking the exit to a narrow country road from the highway, behaved more or less decently, although over the antiquity they had been very rusty. When I dropped the hook, grunting and moaning, they themselves turned on their hinges. Thanks at least for that. The other six, not iron, but wooden, belonged to the type that in Yorkshire is called the "shoulder gates." “Apt name!” - I thought, lifting the next sash, tucking the upper crossbar with my shoulder and describing a semicircle to open the way for the car. This gate consisted of one leaf without hinges, simply tied to a pole with a rope at one end from above and below. ”

Both adults and children are very interested in the world of wildlife. All sorts of strange animals, inaccessible jungle and paradise islands - all this attracts us and causes a lively genuine interest.. That is why all kinds of fiction books about nature are so popular among readers around the world.

Nature Literature

Many writers in their adventure works talk about the world of wildlife, as well as how a person interacts with it. Often such works are designed to arouse admiration for the world around us and think about the fact that we are an organic part of nature and foolishly try to subjugate it to ourselves.

And, first of all, there must be harmony in these relationships, you need to be careful about nature and not behave in relation to it, like a consumer to another product. And such an understanding of the need for harmonization resulted in numerous works of world literature in the 19th century.

At this time, and even later, many writers turn to the surrounding nature for answers to the eternal questions of being that disturb a person. This very nature, as it were, is a means for spiritual accomplishments, in it the author, as in a mirror, sees all the best in his soul and heart.

The best books about nature and animals

The theme of nature in adventure literature is very wide, there are many different fascinating and interesting works in this direction. The theme of the interaction of man and nature, the victory of man over himself through overcoming barriers and self-awareness as a harmonious part of the world is touched on in many wonderful works:

  • Mikhail Prishvin "Floors of the Forest";
  • James Curwood "Kazan";

In the extreme West of the North American continent, in the little explored forests, Canadian Eric Collier and his family lived for more than thirty years.
