In 1961, at the Moscow Polytechnic Institute Gorky was organized by one of the first student design bureaus (SKB-1) in forestry universities. The main focus is the creation of environmentally friendly all-terrain vehicles. Senior students of various specialties of the university participate in the work of the Special Design Bureau.

A program has been developed for teaching students practical skills in creating new transport equipment. This program provides for the participation of students in all stages of the creation of new equipment - from the preparation of technical specifications for design, development of design documentation, up to the manufacture, assembly and sea trials of prototypes of machines. At graduation courses, students carry out graduation projects in the SKB and successfully defend them. As a result, the quality of training of highly qualified specialists is significantly improved, students already at the university acquire very valuable collective creative work experience for them, in practice they realize their potential, which significantly reduces the period of their adaptation to production conditions after graduation.

The SKB also conducts training, production and undergraduate practices.

The best examples of new transport equipment created in SKB were repeatedly exhibited at VDNKh of the USSR, as well as international exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Poland, Mongolia, Germany, the Leipzig International Fair, France and others. For the creation of new transport equipment, the SKB team was repeatedly awarded with VDNKh medals of the USSR with diplomas of laureates of NTTM exhibitions and reviews, in 1979 he was awarded the title of laureate of the Mari Komsomol Prize, in 1989. awarded the title of laureate of the Lenin Komsomol Prize.

The main scientific provisions and the results of research carried out in the Design Bureau are used in the implementation of state budget and contractual R&D carried out by orders of various enterprises related to transport and technological work in off-road conditions (oil and gas industry, energy, communications, etc.).

In 1981 - 1985 these works were carried out under the theme “Problems of the formation and development of a highly efficient transport system of the USSR”, carried out according to the plan of scientific research in the natural sciences (under the section “Most Important Economic Problems”), approved by the USSR Academy of Sciences, the State Committee for Science and Technology and the USSR State Planning Committee. Since 1981, the work was included in the State plans for the development of science and technology for 11 and 12 five-year periods and was carried out according to the target comprehensive Programs of the Ministry of Oil and Gas Construction of the USSR and the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR, included in the list of the most important R&D of the Ministry of Higher Education of the RSFSR, plans for the development of science and new technology of the Ministry of Agriculture of the RSFSR and the USSR, Regional Priority R&D Programs of the Mari-El Republic. In 1996-98, work was carried out as part of a grant from the Ministry of Higher Education of the Russian Federation on basic research in the field of transport sciences.

Research results

1. A new direction in the field of creating off-road vehicles has been proposed and developed. A fundamentally new concept of transport vehicles with controlled air unloading of support-propulsion devices (SAVR) of 2 types (with aerodynamic and contact propulsion devices) was developed and implemented, which allows creating transport vehicles that do not destroy the surface of weak soils during movement.

2. The scientific foundations of the theory, calculation, design and operation of SAWR and their basic elements are developed.

3. A set of basic models of environmentally friendly transport vehicles of a new type with a specific pressure on the supporting surface of not more than 3 ... 5 kPa (30 ... 50 g / cm²) has been created, which ensures the conservation of soils with low bearing capacity from destruction.

Among the machines of the complex, the most significant are:

Amphibious ATVs "Aviator-M", Caspian-2 "," Caspian-2M

Designed and manufactured in SKB-1 MarSTU by order of the fishing organizations of the Caspian basin. Designed for cargo and passenger transportation on ice fishing in the Volga River Delta and seal fishing. They are able to move on dense snow, ice, broken ice with water and can with full load go out of the water onto the ice.

In recent years, as a result of restructuring, SKB has established laboratories: mechatronic systems, environmentally friendly vehicles, inertia control, and non-destructive testing.

The laboratory of environmentally friendly vehicles, in fact being the successor to SKB-1, is currently continuing to modernize and expand the functional characteristics of the created all-terrain vehicles.

In 1961-64 while working on the RIIGA-1 light aircraft, an initiative group of students F. Mukhamedov, G. Ivanov, S. Ivanov, A. Lesikov, V. Prishlyuk and others was formed at the institute, supported by facultycomposition. In 1964, on its basis, student designrIIGA Bureau. From 1961 to 1988 students of the institute designed and built aircraft, helicopters, gyroplanes and hovercraft.

To the Pamirs - for an airplane

In July 1985, an expedition set off for the Pamirs, the purpose of which was to remove the P-5 aircraft from the slopes of Lenin Peak, which crashed there 48 years ago. The expedition included staff and students of the RCII GA and the Central Research Institute of Automated Control Systems and the aircraft plant GA 85. The expedition was led by the head of the SKB RCII GA V.G. Yagnyuk, and his assistant in mountaineering was associate professor, master of sports in mountaineering A.V. .Romanov.

"A poem about wings." Riga option

“A group of enthusiasts from Riga for half a year and 300 thousand rubles did what my the firm needed two years and a half million, ”the words of the Chief Designer Andrei Tupolev are conveyed in approximately the same way after he saw Ilya Muromets at the Tushino airfield in Moscow. An exact copy of the legendary aircraft, made for the shooting of the film “Poem on the Wings,” like old wood, was really made in Riga. And this story doesn’t have was an unprecedented  in the history of cinema, neither in terms of costs nor in terms of technology. After all, this plane not only played the role of its hero in static surveys, but also ran along the Khodynsky field, almost coming off the ground. Perhaps he would even have flown if not for the KGB vigilance.

Aerogeep: from project to car

Every year more and more new mineral deposits are discovered in the northern regions of our country. However, there are many obstacles to the development of these riches, and one of the most difficult is off-road. The most promising for such conditions are WUAs - hovercraft.

RCIIGA-74 - “Aircraft Boat”

One of the most interesting amateur designs can be considered a two-seater flying boat, created in SKB RCIIGA (Riga Red banner  Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers named after the Lenin Komsomol) in 1973 - 1974. The developers of the aircraft were F. Mukhamedov. R. Schavinsky, V. Tseitlin, V. Yagnyuk, A. Schweigert, Yu. Pribylsky.

In the days of V. Yagniuk, this bureau became the highest form of organization research  students work. During the development of specific aircraft and their implementation in metal, hundreds of students carried out real diploma and term projects, term papers and calculations .. (from the book “Chronicle of the Riga Aviation University Disaster”) V. Yagniuk’s time this bureau became the highest form of organization research  students work. During the development of specific aircraft and their implementation in metal, hundreds of students carried out real diploma and term projects, term papers and calculations.
