95 airborne brigade airborne today. The battle for Lysychansk

Just the other day, the deputy commander of the Armed Forces of the DPR, Colonel Basurin E.A., reported violations of the so-called "Easter truce" by soldiers of the 46th Special Operations Brigade and 72 Special Operations Brigade of the Armed Forces in the region of Yasinovataya, the village of Spartak and the Donetsk airport. If the 72nd brigade has been participating in the hostilities from the very beginning of the conflict in the Donbass, then the 46th Special Operations Brigade was formed only at the end of 2016.

In addition, in October 2016, in the city of Bolgrad, Odessa region, another 45th assault brigade was formed.

The creation of two new brigades was out of sight of the Russian segment of the Internet, in addition, as a result of Ukrainian censorship, open sources contain very little information about new units.

The Armed Forces Command declares that both brigades will be equipped and trained according to NATO standards, as well as equipped with modern Ukrainian-made armored vehicles. So, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, all battalions of the 45th Special Operations Brigade are armed with BTR-3DA armored personnel carriers. Given the current state of the Armed Forces, as well as the low productivity of the Ukrainian defense industry, such statements look extremely dubious.

At the moment, it was possible to collect certain information about the 45th Specialized Brigade. The point of permanent deployment of the brigade was the city of Bolgrad, Odessa Region of Ukraine. The unit was formed on the basis of the 88th airmobile battalion, previously part of the 79th airmobile brigade and fully formed on a contract basis. The bulk of the military signed a contract a few months before the official date of formation of the brigade on October 19, 2016. The number of brigades is estimated from 1500 to 2000 people.

The very formation of the brigade was initially criticized by Taras Chmut, a volunteer who now serves in the ranks of the Marine Corps. According to him, against the background of the total staffing of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a significant drop in the motivation of the fighters and the arrival of “zarobitchan” by 7-10 thousand, the Ministry decided to take in quantity, not quality. “Today, the Airborne Command has 25, 79, 80, 81, 95 brigades + a separate training center. And what do you think, are they all 100% staffed? Or at least 80? Or at least 50? They all go at BTR-3/4, Hammers and provided with modern technical facilities? Volunteer noted that instead of accumulating people around existing units, decisions are made to "create poverty" - to form a new brigade without infrastructure. In addition, he is convinced in the third year of the war “it’s time to take quality, not quantity.” “Our BTR-60PB is still in battle In other parts, our air assault units must fight on tent KrAZ trucks, and volunteers still carry what they need to the front of the mountain, "the volunteer expressed indignation. According to him, the new team is" new tenders for construction and repairs, it’s money, who could go to the 25th, 79th, 80th, 81th or 95th Airborne Brigades. "

In the current state of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this assessment of the volunteer can be considered quite adequate. In addition, the withdrawal of the 88th battalion, having combat experience from the 79th OAEMBr, seriously weakened the latter. Such reorganizations of existing units are not an innovation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. So the basis for the formation of 81 airmobile brigades at the end of 2014 was the 90th airmobile battalion, withdrawn from the 95th OAMBr.

There is even less information on the 46 ODSShBr. It is only known that at the point of its permanent deployment is Poltava, with a staff of 1,500 to 2,000 people. There is a colorful propaganda video urging you to sign a contract to serve in the unit and the command statement about equipment and training according to NATO standards. It is not even known which unit of the existing brigades was the basis for its formation. The brigade included a tank platoon equipped with T-80 tanks. As a consequence, the platoon is planned to be deployed in a tank company. The team arrived in the Donbass in early January 2017 and operates in the area of Yasinovataya, the village of Spartak and the Donetsk airport. (

According to the website 1.zt.ua, Today the glorious 95th separate Zhytomyr airborne assault brigade celebrates its 24th anniversary.

It was on December 12, 1992, on the basis of the Sumy Higher Artillery Command School that the 95th Training Center for Training Junior Specialists of the Airmobile Forces began to be formed. The center was equipped with paratroopers and military personnel from other branches of the army who wanted to serve in the newly elite troops of Ukraine. The first units were formed in July 1993, in Zhytomyr, and on November 2, the deputy commander of the training center, Aleksey Bunchik, made the first parachute jump. This was the first part of the Airborne Forces, created already by Independence of Ukraine.

“Winged foot soldiers” are rightfully proud of their service in the brigade. From the first minutes of its existence, the unit was almost the first in everything and still remains among the best.

On October 5, 1994, the 95th Training Center, one of the first military units of Independent Ukraine, was awarded the Battle Flag. One of the first units involved in the framework of the Partnership for Peace international program, in which Ukraine has been participating since 1994, was 95 Airmobile Brigade. Since then, for 21 years, paratroopers continue to participate in peacekeeping exercises and missions in different countries of the world.

In early August 2014, the personnel of 95 separate airborne brigade of the Airborne Forces became a part of world military history.

In the spring of 2014, the paratroopers were one of the first to go to the ATO zone in the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

Today Zhytomyr paratroopers accept congratulations not only on Brigade Day, but also on the Day of Ground Forces.

"I wish you good landing health, good luck, fair wind and soft landing, family happiness, prosperity. Victories on all fronts in the name of Peace, security, prosperity of the Ukrainian army.

Three years ago, on July 19, the longest raid in military history began. It was carried out by the paratroopers of the 95th Zhytomyr Separate Air Assault Brigade under the command of the Hero of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mikhail Zabrodsky during the armed conflict in the Donbass.

The leadership of the ATO gave the order to go on the offensive to release units of the 24th OMBR, 72nd OMBR, 79th OAEMBr, which carried out the blocking of the Russian-Ukrainian border and were encircled in the southeast of Lugansk and eastern Donetsk regions.

According to the plan of the operation, units of the 95th OAEMBr, 30th OMBr, 51st OMBr, 25th ODBR were supposed to release Saur-Mogila, the settlements of Stepanovka and Marinovka, establish control over the crossings on the Mius River and provide an exit from the encirclement of these units. The shock battalions were the battalions of the 30th OMBR and the 95th OAEMBr, staffed by contract servicemen. The main component of the operation was the raid of the 95th OAEMBr. To participate in it, 400 best fighters from the 1st and 13th separate airmobile battalions of the brigade were selected.

The battle for Lysychansk

The first battles during the raid were the battles for the liberation of Lysychansk. According to the plan for the liberation of the city, on July 19, units of the 95th OAEMBr were supposed to carry out an offensive, go to the southern outskirts of the city and start cleansing from the south. 24th brigade - strike from the north. In parallel with the 95th OAEMBr, a battalion of the National Guard Donbass entered from two directions from the south. His task was to clean the city towards the center.

At first, the advance detachment could not maintain a strategically important height and was forced to retreat. However, reinforcements later arrived, the wounded were evacuated to the rear and the combat mission was completed. After that, the paratroopers took control of the oil refinery, not allowing it to be destroyed by the militants, thereby providing passage to other troops that followed them.

In general, the battle for Lysychansk lasted from lunch until the evening. Forces of anti-terrorist operation seized significant stocks of weapons and ammunition: anti-personnel mines, land mines and the like. According to the markings and dates, they were all made in Russia.

On that day, 5 paratroopers were killed and about 40 were injured as a result of the fighting.

Storming Saur Graves

The next was the battle for Saur-Grave, which began about a week after the liberation of Lysychansk.

The paratroopers of the 95th OAEMBr left their base camp north of Artyomovsk, leaving the Kharkov-Rostov highway, and marched in the direction of s. Lugansk, bypassed it from the north through Mironovsky, near Debaltseve turned off the highway Kharkov-Rostov and moved south. In particular, the route ran through the settlements of Redkodub, Stozhkovskoye, Stozhkovo, Kontarnoye, and the northern outskirts of Shakhtersk.

In the area of. Gornoe there was a battle for a checkpoint near the railway crossing. At first, this checkpoint was destroyed by the first brigade group. However, when the second group took the same route, they set up an ambush. The ambush was repelled, and the remains of the roadblock were destroyed completely. The fortification was located on the important highway N21, along which reinforcements arrived for the militants.

After that, the group continued moving south, near the village. Thorny turned southeast.

Fighters 95 odshbr From open sources

On the morning of July 28, units of the 95th OAEMBR, together with units of the 30th, went on the assault on Saur-Mogily. Tank-mechanized units marched ahead, followed by airmobile units. Positions at a height were transferred to BTGr Kolos 51 OMBr. Militants fired assault groups from Grad. The battle lasted about two hours.

The infantrymen held the Saur grave from 21:00 p.m. July 28 to 4:00 a.m. July 29. But due to heavy artillery shelling from Russian territory, 51 OMBR units had to retreat.

Liberation of Stepanovka and Marinovka

After the assault on Saur-Mohyla, the next stage of the raid was the participation of the paratroopers of the 95th OAEMBr in the withdrawal of blocked units at the border. Together with them, BTGr and the rocket artillery division of the 30th mechanized brigade, the company tactical group of the 72nd mechanized brigade, forces and means of the 3rd special purpose regiment took part in the operation. A total of 1611 troops. The first task was the liberation of the settlement Stepanovka.

Two mechanized and one tank company of the 30th OMBR carried out a successful attack on militants from the north-western direction. For an hour and a half, Ukrainian troops occupied the southwestern part of the village. The shelling immediately began from Dmitrovka, Marinovka and Russian territory. The fighting lasted several days. After that, Marinovka was released.

Izvarinsky cauldron

In early August, the battalion of the 95th OAEMBr and 30th OMBr went on the offensive in the area of the Latyshevo-Rassypnoye settlements, which made it possible for the blocked units in the Izvarino area to get out of encirclement. For this, we used the following crossing over the river. Mius is 3 km north of Dmitrovka, over which control has already been established for 19 km from the border with the Russian Federation.

Note that during the crossing, the enemy constantly fired on Ukrainian units, including from Russian territory. Several times the crossing was smashed by artillery fire. Ukrainian tankers held her for two days, until all units crossed the river. After that they left their positions.

In general, then up to five battalions from the 24th, 51st, 72nd and 79th brigades of the Armed Forces and the State Border Service, which defended the state border, were withdrawn to the right bank of Mius. This is about 3 thousand people and over 250 units. technicians.

Losses for the week of the operation amounted to 74 wounded and 11 dead. There were no losses directly during the exit.

Fights for the Red Ray

Units of the 95th OAEMBr began to participate in the creation of a corridor in the Stepanovka - Krasny Luch - Krasnaya Polyana - Lutugino section to isolate the militants from reinforcements from Russian territory. The Ukrainian units — the BTGr of the 95th OAEMBr and the 1st BTGr of the 30th OMBr — found themselves in a difficult situation, since the militants located their air defense missile systems in residential areas of the cities, and they used them for artillery positions.

Also during the battles for Krasnyi Luch and Miusinsk, the first combat clashes occurred between units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and regular units of the RF Armed Forces. Moving north, the BTGr of the 95th OAEMBr cut the road between the Red Beam and Anthracite, which provided technical reinforcements to the militants, establishing roadblocks in threatening directions. The 2nd BTGr of the 30th OMBr leaned towards them from the side of Krasnaya Polyana, closing the outer circle of the environment.

A few days after this, the 95th OAEMBr left the Krasnyy Luch-Antratsit area and, passing through the enemy’s rear in the direction of Debaltseve, returned on August 10 to the original area near Slavyansk.

Zabrodsky raid map ATO press center

In total, over 400 km were overcome during the 25 days of the combat march, of which 170 km were on the rear of the militants, and the mission was completed successfully, however, 13 paratroopers died during the raid, and 60% of the units did not return to the places of initial deployment.

According to the American military expert Philip Carber, this raid is the longest in recent military history, and 95 OAEMBr - "the best brigade of this type in the world."

“Mikhail Zabrodsky and his 95th brigade at the beginning of August became part of military history. They broke through the separatist defense line, made a march to Mariupol, returned along the border, destroyed several Russian artillery battalions already on the Ukrainian side of the border, and took their weapons and equipment : Russian tanks drove right up to Lugansk and returned to Slavyansk, and this is the longest raid of an armed formation in the military history of the world. This is an incredible job, believe me. Unfortunately, this happened two weeks before about the Russian offensive. That is, if this happened a little later, they would have beaten the Russians from the rear, so the course of the war would have turned out differently. But this is not their mistake, "he said.
