How to learn how to break bricks with your hand. Hardness exercises. You break a brick with your bare palm

Tameshivari or ... how to learn how to break boards and bricks.   July 2nd, 2013

Hello!

After I posted on my blog a little earlier and on YouTube (on my channel http://www.youtube.com/shiloffm) a few videos from one of the training sessions at my Budoshin club, in which I and a few other guys break a couple of dozen boards, I received a lot of letters with questions related to the preparation methods for tameshivari.

Here, by the way, is the final mounted video

Many would like to break boards without breaking their hands.

Maybe there would be even more such questions and they were asked even earlier ... But I just very rarely do demonstrative tameshivari on camera. As a rule, when I break something, there are no spectators or cameras nearby.

Having searched, I managed to find only 2 videos.

On the first, I break the weight of the 2nd folded together inches taken directly from the woodpile.

On the second - I broke a shank with a shank from a shovel. Very on one of the forums I was asked to make this video.

And then it all happened completely by accident. Now my club is on vacation. In the last training session in front of them, one of my students brought from the sawmill a whole armful of half-baked boards of 2.5 and 3 cm. Moreover, he did all this without a “declaration of war”.

To the questions “why and why?” He answered that they broke it last year, so this is necessary. Let it become a tradition.

So that's great! Let it be!

Some guys are seriously engaged in hand strengthening for only a year. Nevertheless, not a single one earned a single abrasion or a cut on his fists. About bruises, etc. I generally keep quiet. No one even felt anything.

Yes. Records, however, were not set either. But the “software” discharge boards of 2.5 and 3 cm were smashed “only on the way” even by teenagers. And some beat 2 boards at once.

True, I hit several difficult tests:

1. board on weight (self-support with one hand)

2. thrown board

3. tameshivari with one bent forefinger (nakadaka ippon ken)

They asked me a question, “how many boards are your record”?

There was a time when I spoke a lot at demonstrations and pounded boards in batches. The largest is 5 inches (2.5 cm) by a straight punch (12.5 cm total thickness of the array without spacers between the boards).

True, at that time it was rarely possible to record on video. And the cameras were cassette with magnetic tape. Maybe something was lying somewhere in the archives, but it needs to be sought and digitized.

But how good it is now! These notes are made on my mobile phone:

But now about the main thing.

About what methods we use in preparing shock surfaces.

Below I give a link to a whole chapter from my and Sergei Badyuk books about makiwara and preparation of shock surfaces. This chapter is just about preparing for tameshivari (breaking solid objects: boards, bricks, blocks, tiles, blocks of ice, etc.).

This is a unique and exclusive material.

By the way ... “about the birds” ...

Did you know that Sergey Badiuk took Granpri at the Furious Fist tameshivari tournament?

The video also sounds that Sergey is constantly working on makivar. So, in the courtyard of his house is my professional makivara Kamerton Shilova, and with him on all business trips he carries the makiwara MBSH.

I have not officially documented such achievements yet. But I am pleased that my techniques for strengthening shock surfaces and shells are used by many masters and athletes, including S. Badyuk, A. Povetkin, A. Inshakov, Jeff Monson and many others.

A modern professional makiwara is a high-tech projectile with a large set of unique properties and mechanisms that allow you to adjust these properties.

You can learn about the best professional makivaras Tuning fork Shilova and MBS (Makivara Badyuk-Shilov)

The secrets of the fist fight of the Shaolin Monastery contain notes that since ancient times in the monastery in the late evening, when everyone around had gone to sleep and became quiet, as in a deep forest, warrior monks from the monastery brotherhood inspired their heroic spirit and went to the hall of a thousand Buddhas in the room of Fatan, where they were engaged in their combat exercises. In the palace of a thousand Buddhas, sandbags were hung on the Minsk column, and vessels filled with corn grains, sand and iron filings were standing near the northern wall. Warrior-monks on the sign of the monk-teacher, who supervised the classes, trained the fortress of fingers and poked corn, sand and metal sawdust with their fingers. Others beat the wooden dolls with all their bare hands.

In addition, four groups of young monks, who, sitting in a tiger pose, trained to capture the heart and mind of Sin-i-ba. The view of the Fa-tan exercise room at that time was a sight that could frighten and excite the most remote brave man.

The monks who tried to master the martial arts held a brick in their left hand, and struck it with their right hand, a crack was heard, and the brick fell into two halves. Some with “iron” fists easily smashed strong stones into pieces, wound iron rods around their belts like simple ropes, and were exactly like eight wizards crossing the sea, since each was penetrated by the sanctity of the spirit. Each monk trained hard, so that sweat streamed down his back, some fingers were broken, blood oozing, but they continued to practice without losing their determination and aspiration. As a result of such persistent and continuous studies for ten years, it was possible to pierce an even hole in the wall with a bare finger. Twenty-year-old fighters were able to break a brick with their bare hands. For thirty-year-olds, the fists in the fortress were not inferior to the metal ones, and from their impact the stone scattered into small pieces. Forty-year-old fighters were so powerful that they could break the beam. By the age of fifty, despite reaching old age, the fighters continued with unbending will to continue their studies. Even at 60, 70 and 80 years of age continued hard training every day. Firstly, by doing so they strengthened their body, resisted diseases, and secondly, they remained healthy and viable until old age, pushing back decay and prolonging their lifespan.

With your bare finger to break through the wall

Secrets of fisticuffs.

It is necessary to try to train the strength of the index finger, and for this breath-qi should leave the cinnabar field.

First, you should beat with your finger in millet, then you need to beat with your finger in sand and gravel. And your finger will turn red and swollen, but you have to beat 3800 times. After that, the meat on the finger will turn into scabs and corns, then you need to beat them with iron filings.

After that, as you strike nine times a thousand times, your finger will burst and the blood will protrude. But then the corn will cover your finger with your triple layer, and then you will become a husband who has reached perfection in martial art. You’ll hit the wall, and a hole will instantly form, since the flesh on the finger will turn into metal.

Poke in the millet. Before you begin the exercise, you need to stand in front of the vessel with millet, concentrate, pick up the chest, and then you should direct qi breathing to the finger. Then you take a step forward with your left foot, you collect qi breath in the cinnabar field, pick up your stomach, take a breath and release it quickly, after that you poke your index finger ten times. Stop the exercise after you feel numbness and pain. Every day, morning and evening, you should do this exercise 50-100 times.

Finger pointing in stone sand. After working with millet for two to three months, the first thin layer of coarsened skin should appear on the surface of the index finger, and after that you should start exercises with stone sand.

The technique is the same as described above, as a result of these exercises, the finger swells easily and hurts greatly. If the damage is serious, you can reduce the amount and do several times less. However, you can not completely stop the exercises.

After four to five days, a new layer of skin forms on the finger and everything will return to normal.

Poke in iron sand. The technique is the same as when working with millet and stone sand. However, metal sand is harder, and therefore a tumor forms very quickly on the finger, severe pain is felt, up to the point that the skin may burst and blood protrude. In this case, the necessary processing should be carried out. If serious damage is absent, then classes should not be discontinued. In ancient times they said: " Do not be afraid to slow down, afraid to stop". And, of course, you cannot interrupt classes in the middle of the road because of difficulties. You should train until a firm, solid callus forms on the surface of the finger. Every day you need to do this exercise 30-50 times.

Finger punching a wall. After you poke a finger in the iron sand for more than a year, it is damaged many times and heals many times, and after healing it is damaged again. And as a result, a thick crust forms on the finger; it becomes strong, and if necessary, qi breathing very quickly fills the finger, blood enhances qi breathing, as a result of which it becomes hard as steel, and the tip of the finger is like a metal pin.

Now you need to train kicks into the wall. You need to apply more than a hundred blows a day, and as a result of constant hard training, as a result of perseverance, you can hit the wall with your finger so that a hole remains.

The technique of exercises is as follows. You become facing the wall, at the distance of two chi and three tsunami. The body is straight. Take a left step forward one chi and three tsuns. After that, with the middle finger of your right hand, you describe the arc in front of the chest, three times setting in motion the qi breath. At this moment, you force the initial qi breath of the whole organism to rush out of the cinnabar field and go to the right hand. You shoot your hand with all its might towards the wall, and with a spiral movement you strike against the wall. For the first time, the surface layer is cracking on the wall. During the second training session, you apply 30-50 strokes. The track becomes deeper, the blow is applied faster and gradually increase the number of strokes during training up to 50-130 times. During training, your fingertip may be injured, or blood may again be released. In this case, the training can be temporarily stopped and wait until the wound heals, after which the training resumes and continues until, as a result of the impact, a hole 2 cun deep remains. Only in this case is it considered that the exercise is completed.

Once you have learned to perform the exercise, you should still continue to inflict more than a hundred blows on the wall.

You break a brick with your bare palm

Secrets of fisticuffs.

The technique of breaking a brick with a bare palm is one of the seventy-two arts. During the fourth guard, you hit the bag of rice, and in the evening in the light of the stars you hit the board.

At noon, you strike at the dining table, and after lunch, hit the wall. The skin bursts, and blood scatters, and you continue your workouts in spring and winter. You walk to strike wooden dolls, breaking their wooden heads up and down. As a result of training for a hundred days, you can break a brick with your bare palm.

The ability to break a brick or stone with one bare palm is one of the 72 Shaolin arts. Exercises are distributed during the fourth guard, in the late evening, at noon and in the afternoon. Also, training is carried out during a walk. The fourth guard is the time of dawn. At this time, you should hit the bag of rice. When the stars pour out - it's midnight, at this time you should train blows on the bench. Afternoon is 12 hours, at which time you should strike at the dining table. After lunch, when you retire to your room, you should strike at the four walls of your room. Training this exercise is a difficult matter that requires perseverance and perseverance; it takes a lot of time to complete. At first, the practitioner easily gets wounds and injuries. However, he should not be discouraged, despair, but rather persistently continue classes. In the evening, after dinner, you should go on a walk of 50 Zhangs. Each step counts 5 chi, so 50 Zhangs make up a hundred steps. Walking takes place in a gallery with wooden dolls.

So during the walk, the monks inflict strong, furious blows on the head of the dolls. They imagine that these dolls are their opponents, and this helps to mobilize energy. This is an effective method of training exercises to achieve hardness.

And as a result of a hundred-day training, the ability to break a brick with a bare palm appears without much difficulty.

Room exercises. In the room you can train blows on a wooden bench, on a wall, on a door jamb, on a table surface. Every day, early in the morning, after eating and in the evening before going to bed, you need to apply strong blows to hard objects, the place of impact in the palm of your hand is the surface in the vicinity of the hou-si point, or back stream.

Each time, 30-50 strokes should be applied. Training continues for 130 days.

Street exercise. Strikes on a sandbag.

A sack is sewn from white canvas, which can hold fifty pounds of sand. It is suspended on a branch or on a tree trunk, at the level of the trainee’s heart, where the ju-tsue point is located, the tsun is above the navel). Every day, at dawn or late at night, you need to stand opposite this bag at the distance of one chi.

You should stand in a pose with bent legs. With the right hand, up to 50 strokes are applied to the sandbag, then as many with the left. Thus, changing the left and right hands, they train 139 days (Fig. 13).

Fig.13

Blows on a wooden doll: a doll (from three to five pieces) is made from date-wood or persimmon wood, which corresponds in height to the height of the trainee. Three wooden dolls are arranged in a triangle, and the distance between them is five chi. The trainee becomes in the middle, facing the wooden doll. He turns and strikes with his left and right hand. Then it changes its position and strikes the next doll, thus making a circle. Three circles make up one exercise cycle. Each time you should do 5-15 cycles (Fig. 14).

Fig. 14

Five wooden dolls are arranged according to the scheme of the plum blossom of mei hua. The trainee becomes in the center and deals successive strokes (the distance between the wooden dolls is 1.3 chi).

All three of the above methods are the basis for breaking a brick with a bare palm. You need to train gradually and consistently, persistently hone your technique and continue your training for approximately one year. After that, a brick is taken in the left hand. You become in a position with your legs bent, and while you make a chi-breathing movement, filling both hands with it, you strike the brick with your palm (Fig. 15). After you train with your bare hands to break a brick, more than a hundred days should pass, and then it is believed that the exercise is completed. First, it breaks down to learn how to break one brick, and after that, you need to make two bricks together and break them with one blow, gradually increasing the number of bricks.

With a bare fist break a stone

Secrets of fisticuffs.

You need to clench your fists tightly and train your punches on the western flowering Mount Xi Hua Shan. First you train blows on a wooden board, and as a result your fists become strong, like iron. Strike a brick and punch a stone wall with your fist. The force of a fist’s blow depends on the strength of the breath-qi, and after the blow, the stone falls into four parts. Train hard for 30 years, and then you will easily perform this exercise.

Breaking a stone with a bare fist is one of the most difficult exercises to achieve hardness in the Shaolin system. To perform this exercise, you need to have an extraordinary will, for several decades you need to overcome huge difficulties, and not lose perseverance until the very end, and then you can perform this exercise.

Every day, early in the morning and before going to bed, you first strike with your fist on the inner wall or on a wooden board. Every day you do three complexes, for one complex you apply 50-100 strokes. And only after three to five months will you begin to notice any results from your training.

After you apply more than a hundred blows during the day, and at the same time you will not feel pain, then you can proceed to breaking bricks. Three to four complexes should be done per day, and each complex is 50 strokes. After training for three to five months, when you can break a brick with one blow, you should proceed to the training of breaking stones. This exercise is the most difficult. It requires difficult training for 10, 20, 30 or more years, so that upon impact the stone will split into several parts. In this case, it is believed that the exercise is completed.

Head breaking exercise

Currently, very few are training in this exercise. It is performed as follows. First, they stand in a rack of three circles and five times set in motion the breath-qi, while the breath-qi leaves the cinnabar field and goes to the point of bai-hua. After that, they strike the top of their head with their fist or hit themselves on the skull, and gradually the blows become more and more powerful.

Head bangs are applied to the wall, you can also break a wooden board.

This exercise is best done at noon. When you train this exercise, the tongue touches the palate, the mouth closes, breathing through the nose, qi breathing passes through the crown of the head, and when the qi breathing comes out, a sharp sound is made. In this case, you can not relax qi breathing.

To split a brick, the price of which is set based on its characteristics, it does not take much effort. Using the correct method, you can break it up, split a quarter, two longitudinal or transverse halves. To get it right, you need a brick and a hammer.

What parts does a brick consist of?

To know where to strike, you need to understand and be able to determine the edges of a brick. Exist:

  • spoon, also called the gantry side - this is the widest and longest part of the product;
  • the poke, also called the poke side, is the back that acts as the connection between the height and width of the product.

Depending on what part of the brick is required for further work, a blow is applied either to the gantry or to the tying side.

What is required to break a brick

To split a brick in half, you will need a good and durable hammer, which has a tapered end. The best solution would be a pickaxe, used in the work of masons, but most often there is no such tool at hand. At the same time, no table or mount for the brick is required - professionals recommend keeping it on weight while holding it with one hand.

How to crack a brick?

To crack a brick you will need:

  • Chalk or sharp object. With their help, it is required to mark the fault line in order to know where to strike. If chalk is used, it is better to choose a contrasting color, otherwise you can lose the markup during operation. A crack will appear along this line, appearing after several hammer blows.
  • For hollow bricks, it will be necessary to apply light blows with the narrowed end of the hammer along the previously outlined line. It is necessary to wait for the appearance of small cracks on the surface of the material. Then you should go to the central part of the brick and finally crack it.
  • For a full-bodied brick, light impacts are required less, you need to quickly and strongly hit once strictly perpendicularly on the gantry side. This should be enough to make the product crack, and it can be finally broken into pieces and used in construction.

Before you start cracking bricks used directly in construction work, it is advisable to practice a little on old materials. In order to learn how to strike correctly, you should choose a product similar in characteristics.

It is not difficult to break a single brick once, but breaking bricks as a constant practice requires spiritual strength and self-confidence. If you do not have such confidence, you can not break a brick or anything else. The bricks you see in these photos are ordinary Japanese red bricks. However, the success of the breaking techniques is significantly different depending on the quality of the bricks you use for this. We personally made a terrible mistake once, twelve years ago, demonstrating breaking bricks in Mexico and choosing the wrong type of brick. The best type of brick for the crushing Karate technique is one that is light in hand and does not ring when you hit it against others. Avoid the type of bricks that Americans often pave the streets for, because they are hard as iron, and it is impossible to break them with bare hands. On the other hand, you can break ordinary red bricks a couple of pieces at a time. Even a beginner, if he practices hard enough, can hope that someday he will be able to break even three bricks at a time.

Those people who can actually break three bricks at once with the edge of the palm, of course, deserve the right to be called "knife-knife" masters. Anyone who could break more than two bricks with one blow could probably use the same technique to break the neck of a large dog. And he could also chop off the horn of a bull.

My own experience has shown that you can break the neck of any Japanese dog with a single “knife-knife” stroke. I have done this more than once, although this was already several years ago. I can say the same about bull horns. Despite our perseverance and the availability of a proper teacher, which is necessary for training karate, we must carefully study the stone or brick that we are going to break. Although the number of people practicing karate has increased today, I was one of the first to break the neck of a dog with the edge of his hand and chop off the horns of about forty bulls, and therefore it is better. Others understand the need for competent karate trainers. Age, of course, gives us experience in technical skills, but it also leads to the inevitable loss of strength and speed, so we must study the methods of breaking objects in our young years and under the guidance of good teachers. Although we cannot give a clear mathematical analysis of all the techniques, we would like to explain them in terms of dynamics. In other words, we want to explain them so that even a novice will understand this.

When we were just beginning to study the methods of karate, allowing you to break stones and bricks, we, of course, experienced some doubts about the real power of the methods of karate. Of course, before that we had heard of masters who could break a stone or brick, but we had not yet seen a single real example with our own eyes. Finally, after we found our own methods of breaking objects, we showed them to one very famous Chinese master, Kempo, and he took it with fear mixed with admiration, although in our performance these exercises did not look too easy.

Of course, anyone can easily follow in the footsteps of the discoverer. Anyone can get to America after Columbus has already discovered this continent, because to repeat the discovery once made is not so difficult. Now that we have found our ways of breaking stones and bricks and our methods have spread widely, any healthy person can do this. This, of course, is good, but we want to point out that even a correctly executed technique of breaking objects can break your bones.

It will be late to ask how to straighten your wrist or cure the dislocation after you already get injured. If you often practice breaking objects with the “knife-hand” in a wrong way, you will notice that over time your hand is deformed, its skin color will change and you will experience certain inconveniences.

Punch

1. It is better to break a brick on an anvil, which should be as large as possible in the interests of sustainability. The anvil is set at about the height of the chair seat, and a very tall person can use the anvil at the height of his knees. A person with fast nerve reflexes could have set the anvil directly on the ground, but rather would have set the anvil at a level just above your own knees. At one end of the anvil lay a towel, rolled up about the width of the hand. The brick is taken in the hand that you are going to use to hold it, and the towel is used to protect the back of the palm from injury. This is usually the left hand, and it covers about a third of the brick.

2. Put another rolled towel on the brick in the place where you intend to hit. This point should be just below the center of the brick. The place where the brick breaks the easiest is about four-ninths from its edge. Grasp the upper third of the brick and lift its end approximately one finger from the anvil.

3. The moment of the blow "hand-knife" breaking a brick. If the first blow you do not break the brick, wait a second or two and try a second and third time. Almost any brick will break on the third stroke, or even earlier.

My ma

Ancient legends say that the Shaolin monks practiced the so-called “stuffing” (strengthening the bones of the arms and legs to be able to freely break a brick or other solid object with your hand). How did they do it?

There is evidence that the stuffing training was carried out with the help of human wooden dolls, which worked out blows with hands and feet. At the same time, strengthening of the periosteum (we are talking about the connective tissue membrane that surrounds the bone) and bones, as well as the removal of restrictions from the pain barrier was carried out by periodic training with bags. Cereals (rice and beans) were poured into the bags. In them, with all their strength, the monks drove fists and fingers. After such classes, the Shaolin monks could easily smash a brick with their fist, or chop a bamboo trunk into smithereens and make a hole in the wall with their finger.

It is clear that not every one of us can afford to train in the halls of modern Shaolin or have a personal trainer who will give him the skills of such trainings, and yet, everyone has the opportunity to try to start training and how to know, maybe the question is how breaking a brick with your hand will soon cease to be a matter ...

You can learn how to smash a brick with your fist. But ... It’s worth a lot of patience. Such a skill does not come in 2-3 days or in 2-3 weeks. Most likely, you will have years of hard training in order to learn how to crush your hands with objects that not everyone will break with a hammer. Have courage, perseverance and patience. And in no case do not try to break a brick with your fist at your first training. You are guaranteed to be injured and it may happen that you are injured with such a result that for the rest of your life you will forget about the career prospects of a karateka who destroys everything in his path.

Training schedule

Back to the Shaolin monks. There is evidence that these adherents of Wushu practiced “stuffing” 4 times a day:

  • At 6 a.m. blows on a bag of rice,
  • At 12 padded dining table,
  • Afternoon training consisted of wall-mounted stuffing (in your room, on 4 walls),
  • In the evening, after dinner, they were already beating on the board while lying on a bench, in their cell.

Interestingly, can you devote so much time to such training? If you can, then go ahead. There are many bricks in Russia ....

The ability to break a brick with your hand is a very difficult art, which will take you a lot of time, effort and perseverance.

In fact, in order to achieve the ability to break objects with your hands, you should train the ability to concentrate strength, energy and have hands prepared for such blows. These are the two most important factors. Ancient records say that the monks managed to achieve the ability to break a brick with their fists in a hundred days of hard, focused training, according to the program that was described above. True, the records do not specify how many months or years before this the monks studied Wushu and what was the general level of their training.

In addition to a tough stuffing program, nightly walks were offered along the alleys of Shaolin Park, lined with wooden dolls. The monks were invited to walk for a reason, and striking at these idols.

By the way, all the same notes state that the training program in the cell with the striking of the door jamb, specially treated boards, walls and a bench was 130 days in duration. The bag-breaking program was supposed to fit in 139 days.

Today’s trainers say that without completing the stuffing process to perfection within one calendar year, it’s too early to start training with the brick itself. Having felt that you are already able to start breaking it with your fist, take it in your left hand and holding it in front of you and at the same time concentrating the qi energy, you should hit it with your right hand. After the first overpowered brick, training should not be abandoned, you need to continue for at least another 3-4 months.

After you can easily smash a brick with your fist, you can move on to mastering the ability to beat two or more bricks. Adherents of wushu and karate say that in addition to the stuffing program, there will be a good incentive to squeeze out on bricks (with bent flakes) or on other hard surfaces.

Stuffing is a mandatory attribute of training for breaking solid objects. If you abandon training on it, then the ability to break a brick or board will gradually go away.

But without the ability to concentrate and direct energy to the place where you beat, it is not worth it and hopes that you will learn how to break bricks and boards. Beat should not only be a fist or edge of the palm. The whole arm must be put into the blow. It should be a single whole from the shoulder to the tip of the fingers. In this case, the blow should be strong, sharp, fast. Only then will the desired goal be achieved.

Important! This article is an adapted version of various sources for training in mastering the skills of breaking solid objects. It does not claim to be encyclopedic accuracy and contains only generalized information about such training.

We dare to give important advice, especially for beginners in the matter of breaking objects with body parts. Find an experienced mentor in this question who will lead you step by step to the result. This will help to avoid injuries and disappointments.
