Several options for effective wasp nest destruction

Both residents of high-rise buildings and owners of private houses and summer cottages have to deal with wasps. Some rarely, others more often, but the problem is relevant for everyone. It is especially unpleasant if there are small children in the house, and if you are allergic to the bites of one of the family members, it becomes completely scary. Single wasps flying onto a balcony or yard are not a big danger, but when the wasps decide to settle in or near your house, a real threat appears. On their part, it looks as if people interfere with their lives, constantly disturb them, go out into the street, as a result, over time, they will begin to sting everyone, whether it be a pet or a child. This means that you need to remove the hornet's nest as quickly as possible, without waiting until it grows to an incredible size. It is imperative to destroy the nest if the wasps have settled on a balcony, under a roof, in an attic, on a tree, directly on your site, in general, close to your home and places of your movement.

It seems that the nest is hanging in the far corner of the plot behind the barn and let it hang, if the insects are not touched, they will be calm. But it's not. Even a person passing at some distance from the nest can make them angry, but what if a child is playing there? And if they attack all swarm? Compromises in this case are completely useless. Start right now, having missed the time, there is a risk that the insects will not let you get close to their home at all and will seriously defend themselves.

Where to look for a hornet's nest

Before you destroy the nest, you need to find it. It happens that the dwelling of insects is located in an inaccessible place.

Look for a nest of wasps on the balcony:

  • inside under the ceiling;
  • outside under the window sill and cornice;
  • in drain pipes;
  • between the cladding and the wall;
  • among rubbish and other rubbish.

Location on:

  • on trees, under branches and in dense foliage;
  • in the ground;
  • in grass;
  • in a pile of rubbish;
  • in a hedge;
  • under the ceiling of a toilet or a barn, any other country building.

In a buiding:

  • under the roof;
  • under the skin;
  • on the balcony or loggia;
  • in the attic;
  • under the ceiling.

Wasps prefer to settle in hidden and hard-to-reach places. Sometimes it is quite difficult to determine their location, so it is easier to track their movement paths. Choose an open area and put a small piece of meat there. Wasps like this treat, their path will run just between the nest and the bait, it remains to be seen where they flew.

How to destroy a hornet's nest in a house or apartment

Wasps rarely build a nest right in a house or apartment, but this happens. In this case, the use of pesticides in their pure form, without improvised means, is not the best way out. You will not kill all the insects, and the surviving wasps will be so angry that even fleeing will not help to get away from revenge. Wait for the night (the wasps will sleep) or do it early in the morning, put on clothes that are inaccessible to the sting of insects, cover your face, neck, protect your hands with gloves. No one should be in the room, only you and the wasps.

  • Take a package (tight), very carefully put it on the nest, tighten it at the place of its fastening.
  • Make a hole in the bag and stick a spray tip into it (it doesn’t matter what you choose, it can be ordinary dichlorvos).
  • Fill the nest with insecticide.
  • Wait ten minutes. If possible, leave the bag for a couple of days to make sure the insects die.
  • Remove the wasp housing along with the package.
  • Throw it away or burn it.
  • Ventilate the room.

If the nest is accessible but the bag cannot be placed over it, try soaking a thick cloth with insecticide and wrapping it around the nest. Just wait, and then throw away or destroy with the fabric.

You can get rid of the nest, without the use of chemicals, using a washing vacuum cleaner.

  • Make sure the hose is long enough and the holes in the grate are small, otherwise the wasps will fly out.
  • Pour the soap solution into the vacuum cleaner, about six centimeters.
  • Attach the hose to the flight port of the socket.
  • Turn on the vacuum cleaner.
  • It may take up to an hour for all the wasps to get into the vacuum cleaner.
  • Turn off the vacuum cleaner. Quickly restrict the exit from the hose, for example by plugging the opening with a cloth.
  • Wait until all wasps are dead.
  • Throw away the contents of the bag.

Drown the nest in water. The method is suitable if it hangs freely.

  • Wear tight clothing. Place a bucket under the nest, pour boiling water or cold water there.
  • Throw a bag over the nest (make sure that there are no holes in it).
  • Tie up the bag and pull off the nest.
  • Place it in water, cover it with a lid on top and place the load.
  • Leave for 12 hours if using cold water.
  • Destroy the remains of the nest. Before removing it from the bucket, tap on it for a buzz.

How to open a wasp nest

If the wasps have settled in the attic or on the balcony, which you rarely visit, use the bait method, which is described in detail in our article Wasps Under the Roof. Place a container with bait, such as jam, in an open area and add insecticide there. It will take some time to destroy all the wasps, you will need to update and add bait until all the insects are dead. A good bait method is on the site when the wasp's dwelling is in an inaccessible place.

In similar ways, you can destroy nests in any buildings, in a barn, in a bathhouse or garage. Choose for yourself which method is better to use depending on the situation.

How to remove a hornet's nest in the country, in the garden

The easiest, most effective, and fastest way to get rid of a hornet's nest is to burn it down. Just douse it with flammable liquid (gasoline) and bring a match. Unfortunately, the method is not applicable in all situations and it is somewhat dangerous.

It cannot be used in a building, near a house, wooden, paper surfaces, on a tree, next to upholstery made of combustible material, and the like. The flames will be large and can easily spread to other objects. It is safe to burn the nest if it is located on a rock wall or in the ground.

The destruction of wasps with insecticides is considered a universal method.

Preparations for combating wasps: "Karbofos", "Lambda Zone", "Dichlorvos", "Get", "Executioner", "Tetrix", "Aktara" and others. If the product needs to be diluted in water, do it according to the instructions. The insecticide can be poured into the bag in advance or after it is put on the nest.

In those places where the dwelling of insects is visible, but it is impossible to get there with a bag (hollow tree, drainpipe, sheathing, etc.), try to get the product inside the nest, and block the exit. Follow all safety precautions. Hold the directed spray of the pesticide for at least 15 seconds. And then, as quickly as possible, free the territory. When the activity of the insects subsides, and this will happen only the next day, knock down the nest with a long stick, if possible, treat it with the product again for a 100% guarantee.

If there are not very many wasps yet and they do not threaten the health of households, take a gel, any one designed to fight cockroaches. Apply it around the nest. Wasps will eat poison, and also drag it to themselves, where they will feed the "poison" to the uterus and larvae.

If the nest of wasps is located in the ground, it can be flooded.

  • Take a garden hose.
  • Direct a jet of water into the nest.
  • Wait until the water starts to flow out.
  • Close the flight hole with a stone.
  • Wait until all insects are dead.

The method may not work if the water soaks into the soil too quickly.

In open areas or in trees, it is possible to smoke wasps out of the nest. To do this, you need to light a fire or put a smoke bomb right above the wasp dwelling. Rising, the smoke penetrates into the nest, acts asphyxiating on the wasps, as a result of which they leave their homes. After a couple of hours, make sure that all the insects have flown away, knock down the nest with a stick and immediately destroy it.

Call the pest control service

An absolutely safe way that does not require your time and effort is to call specialists. Exterminators will quickly and efficiently save you from the nest of wasps, wherever it is. After processing, the service guarantees that insects will not bother you until the beginning of next spring. In those cities where there is no specialized service, you can try to contact the SES.

Safety measures when destroying wasp nests

  • First of all, make sure that your body reacts calmly to the bites of these insects. The test is performed by an allergist. If you have an allergic reaction, never remove the nest yourself.
  • Take care of protective clothing. Cover all parts of the body as much as possible. Protect your eyes with regular ski goggles or wear a beekeeper mask.
  • When using insecticides, use old, unusable clothes, you may have to throw them away after the procedure.
  • Do not use a ladder if the nest is high, if you are attacked by wasps, you can fall and get seriously injured.
  • Whichever method you use, make sure that there are no children playing nearby, no pets before the start of the event.
  • Make an escape plan, if anything goes wrong you have to retreat. You can repeat the procedure after a few hours.
  • Act quickly before the wasps react to the danger.
  • Warn neighbors about the event. They need to close the windows and, if possible, not go outside.
  • Do not kill the wasp if it was able to fly out of the nest, killing the insect releases a substance that will provoke the whole swarm to attack you.
  • Waving your arms, or whatever, only angers the insects.
