Game "Alias": understand me, understand!

What is Alias?

The meaning of the game "Alias" is in guessing words. The words written on the cards need to be explained to the other participants. The team is awarded points for correct answers. Dynamic and fun.

There are many variations: the board game "Elias for the whole family", and a fun game for any company "alias party", and "alias junior" and many others.

Packaging, design and localization

The game was developed in the 90s in Finland. "Alias" in English means "otherwise called". Since then, cards with words have conquered many countries of the world and "multiplied" in a bunch of different versions.

The design of the boxes changes regularly, and even more so from addition to addition. Slightly "floats" and the quality of the cards, depending on what kind of elias the printing house has printed today. You can recognize the original edition by the “Tactic” logo and the word “Alias” written in the corporate font. In any case, the board game "Alias" and "Say otherwise", and "Party", and "For children" will delight the content.

The "alias party" and "alias party 2" sets have an additional field with a rotating arrow. "Elias crazy version" will entertain you with an incredible number of ways of explanation, and "Alias brilliant version" will make you even invent words on your own from the letters that have fallen out.

On the territory of Russia, the game is released in Russian or in two languages with Russian rules.

Playing field

Pay attention to the numbering on the game board - it starts over every 8 steps, and the number in the circle means the ordinal number of the hidden word. But, for example, in "alias junior" there are no numbers at all - only start and finish points.

Rules of the game

The basic rules of word play are simple and apply to all kits from "alias family" and "alias junior" to "alias party". Everyone who has played at least once will not forget them.

How to explain words correctly

  • The explanation of the word hidden on the map should take place without mentioning it itself and without using one-root words (for example, "airplane" and "flying" are one-root).
  • You cannot explain a word in parts, in a foreign language.
  • If a phrase is given and a part of it is guessed, then the guessed one can be further used in the explanation.
  • Synonyms and antonyms can be used.
  • The team must guess the word only for a limited time.

The teams must guess the word in a limited time.

    Game progress

Participants are divided into several teams (up to six), each must have a minimum of 2 people. The team takes a chip and places it on the field, determining the sequence of the move by drawing lots, counting, tossing a coin, or otherwise. The entire deck of cards is shuffled and divided equally between the teams.

The team determines who will guess and who will guess. Usually the roles change during the game. The guessing person takes the whole deck in his hands, turns the clock and begins to explain the words. He takes them not in a row and not at random - the number of the word must correspond to the number on which their command chip is located.

For example: the chip is on the field with the number "3", which means that it explains the word at number 3. As soon as the correct answer sounds, this card is put aside and the explanation for the third word on the next is announced, and as long as it can.

Important: the words must be guessed exactly in the form in which they are indicated. The singular is not counted instead of the plural, synonyms, just the same root.

While the sand is pouring in the hourglass, you need to have time to explain as many words as possible. For each correct answer, the team is awarded 1 point, and the chip takes a step forward.

As soon as the sand in the clock runs out, the other team shouts "Stop!" If the explanation is interrupted in the middle, then all the teams in a race can try to guess it and earn 1 extra point.

After the used cards are removed down the piles, and the move is passed on to the next team.

For the game, private players are divided into several teams.

    Robbery

There are circles on the board marked with a thief figure. If the team missed one, then on the next move they act according to the following scheme:

    • do not use an hourglass;
    • make up words from only five cards;
    • and most importantly, any team can give and receive points for answers.

There is no such clause in the "alias for kids" - so as not to complicate the rules and not cause resentment among the participants.

    Scoring

At the end of each turn, points are calculated. For each guessed word, 1 point is awarded, allowing you to take a step forward. For each not guessed or missed (if the player cannot explain a word, you can skip it) - 1 penalty point. "Penalty" cards are put in a separate pile. It is easy to get a fine if you name the word itself or the same root when explaining. For the amount of penalties, the team moves back across the field.

    Victory

Victory conditions are even simpler than rules. You just need to be the first to reach the finish line. Therefore, it is required:

    Purpose of the game

The far-reaching goal of "Alias, or Say It Differently" is the development of vocabulary and intelligence. The word list can be completely unexpected and open up gaps in your knowledge.

If in editorial offices for adults the main thing for which they sit down to play is the desire to have fun and crazy time, then the children's analogue, Elias Junior, is even more developing than entertaining.

The aim of the game "Alias, or Say it otherwise" is to develop vocabulary and intelligence.

    Major additions

As already mentioned, the game has many versions - both standalone and compatible with the basic set. These are "alias for babies", and "elias party", and travel kits, and absolutely crazy and extraordinary.

    "Elias compact"

Very very compact version which is convenient to take with you. Only 800 words on 50 double-sided cards and a small playing field. Elias fans will love the ability to simply drop the packaging into the bag to enjoy the game anytime, anywhere.

    Board game"Alias junior"

The "Alias for Kids" set is the simplest "guessing game" of the entire series. It is suitable even for those kids who do not yet know how to read, because there is only one word on the cards, and each is accompanied by a picture. It can be explained not only by phrases, but also by singing or just sounds. If you guessed it, you step forward, if you didn’t guess it, you go back. There are no unnecessary complications in "alias junior".

The game "elias junior compact" differs from it only in a small box that you can put in your pocket and then entertain the kids on the road. And for a children's party, "elias party for children" is suitable - with additional tasks that make the process more fun.

    Alias set for children.

    Board game "Alias party"

Board game "Elias Party" will be an irreplaceable addition to a fun party. Simple basic rules diversify new ways of explanations found on the field, and roulette, which introduces an element of surprise. There are as many as 400 cards, among them not only ordinary words, but also lists of celebrities and emotions.

An irreplaceable addition to a fun party.

The "Party 2" set also introduces forfeits, which are capable of more entertaining the party in the process of guessing what was conceived. Elias Party Compact is a small box with fifty double-sided cards and a notepad instead of a playing field.

For Elias, the party will be an excellent competitor to the “alias crazy” version, which will blow everyone's mind in two hundred ways of explanation. Of course, you can refuse to participate in this madness and explain, as usual, but then you will have to move across the field not forward, but backward, which is somewhat offensive.

"Elias Crazy Version" will blow your mind in two hundred ways of explanation.

"Elias is a brilliant version" especially for the polymath.

Super trainer for erudites! There are not words on the cards, but letters, and from the letters that have fallen out you must first come up with something, and only then explain. If it's really hard, then you can pay with points for replacing letters.

    "Elias for the whole family"

"Alias Family" is a kind chamber edition, which can be played by companies from three people. The teams add up every move anew. The cards have two levels of difficulty - "family" and "adults". The goal is not to break up your rivals, but to have a fun evening with your family.

    "Elias Who am I?"

200 cards with celebrities that players become during the turn. The task of the explainer is to describe the person whose card is fixed on the forehead of the guessing person. For speed, of course.

Another great party version. Girls in one team, boys in another. Ladies have a deck with various “masculine” concepts, for example, “tool belt”, for gentlemen - with “feminine” ones, such as “studs” or “eye cream”. And try to explain!

In this version, girls versus boys.

By and large, all games, except for "alias for kids", can be combined with the base game and with each other.

The board game Alias or Say it otherwise is one of the most popular in Russia today. Colorful packaging, comfortable playing field and simple rules- this is the first half of its obvious advantages. The second half is, in fact, the gameplay itself.

It's great that as your child grows up, you can choose versions for their age, thereby complicating the level of difficulty. So for the smallest there is a game, for children aged 5 years and above, a game is suitable.

If you are thinking of throwing a party - then for you, which is suitable not only for children, but also for adults! This board game will be a bomb in any company! When traveling or on a visit, compact -, will become your undoubted helpers. They will definitely not let your children get bored and will undoubtedly leave pleasant memories and create a sincere atmosphere!

It is easy to remember the Alias rules, but it is impossible to forget (as it is impossible to forget how to ride a bike), the number of players is practically unlimited - how convenient it is for your company! And finally, the game Say Otherwise does not get boring: you cannot play twice and still play exactly the same!

    Alias board game rules

The players are divided into teams (from two people), decide the issue of priority, agree within the team who will be the explanatory and who will be the perceiver, determine the word numbers on the cards, put an hourglass and try to understand each other for a minute.

In the board game Elias to single-root structures, we say "NO!" Pointing at surrounding objects with a finger in order to explain a word is considered weakness! Circling your hand in the air and mooing, you see, have little to do with word games.

The process itself Alias or Say Otherwise looks something like this: the explaining player gathers his linguistic courage into a fist, pulls out any card, finds a word with a certain number, tries to interpret its meaning to another player so that he can name the hidden word. If there are more than two players, all allied (team) members can guess the word.

You can place an order and buy the game Alias in our store today. Don't wait, a lot of impressions await you!

Board games are not only interesting, but also useful. For example, many of them help expand vocabulary, develop imagination and improve your wit. One of these games was the game Alias ! Perhaps not everyone is familiar with this name, but we are sure that everyone knows this game! Some people used to call her “Say it differently”. The second name opens the veil of secrecy and allows you to guess what the essence of the game is. The main task of the players is to explain the word being solved in other words. At the same time, participants can use synonyms or antonyms, help themselves with gestures and facial expressions. The game Alias very useful, because it helps to expand vocabulary and learn how to express your thoughts. In addition, thanks to Alias you can learn a good foreign language, because you can play not only in your native language!

    The board game Alias includes:

    • folding field;
    • chips;
    • hourglass;
    • cards;

First of all, the participants need to be divided into teams. Each team must have at least 2 people. Each team receives its own chip and places it in its starting position. Next, you need to select the language in which you will play. When the choice is made, you can start!

Each move one of the team members will explain the words to others, the task of the rest is to guess. We turn over the hourglass, and one of the players opens the first card! He needs to explain to his colleagues the word under the number on which the team's chip is. The player explains the word associatively, without naming it or using the same root words. If colleagues guess the word, the explainer puts down the card and picks up the next one. As soon as the time expires, all guessed cards are counted and the team takes steps forward, the number of which is equal to the number of guessed cards.

When a team makes a mistake, they receive a penalty point. In addition, the player can get a minus by his decision if he does not know how to explain the word. If, as a result of the movement, a team's chip enters or crosses a black square, on the next move the representative of this team explains the words to everyone, and not only to the members of his group. The hourglass is not used, the player's task is to explain 5 words.

The first team to complete one lap across the playing field wins.

The game Alias uncomplicated and very addicting. There are many modifications of this game. For example, there is a family version, even a small number of people can play it. For this, a special roulette was created, with the help of which each participant finds a partner and explains the word to him. In addition, the cards in such a game are divided, depending on the level of difficulty, so both adults and children can play it. For the little ones, the creators have come up with a special version called "Junior". Children who have reached the age of five can play it. Hand-drawn cards were created for the little ones, so even if the child does not yet know how to read, he will be able to play Alias ! Among other things, there is a genius version of the game, a crazy version and a party version!

Alias - check how rich your vocabulary is!

The game Say differently is played by teams of two or more people. main idea The game is about explaining words to your teammates in other words, using, for example, synonyms, antonyms and clues so that your team members can guess as many words as possible before time runs out. The more words the team guessed, the more they can take steps forward on the playing board. In Say Another Way / Party, words can be explained in completely new and incredible ways. The first team to reach the finish line wins the game.

    Game progress

  • Place the spinning arrow on the playing board.
  • Place the Word cards face down in separate piles next to each team. Place the Position and Emoji cards face down in the places marked for them on the game board.
  • Each team takes a blank Celebrity card and writes 8 names on it, for example, the names of friends and acquaintances. Then mix these cards together with the rest of the Celebrity cards, divide them into two piles, and place them face down on the playing board.
  • Each team chooses a playing piece and places it on the Start field.
  • The teams take turns choosing a player to explain the words in the first round. This player takes a number of cards with words on the playing board (10-15 pieces). Each card has 8 words. The other teams then select a number between 1 and 8, for example 4. The hourglass is turned over and the player begins to explain word number 4 (see Explanation of Words). When the team guesses the correct answer, the explainer places the card on the table and begins to explain word number 4 on the next card.
  • When the sand in the watch runs out, the other teams shout "Stop!" If the player then continues to explain the word, then all teams have the right to guess. The team that gives the correct answer faster than anyone else wins and has the right to make one move forward on the playing board.
  • The number of cards on the table shows how many forward moves a team can make (see Errors and Omissions).
  • The right to move passes to the next command. Used cards are returned to the bottom of the deck. Unused cards are passed on to the next explainer, who may also want to take some new cards from the board.
  • The number fields on the board are numbered from 1 to 8 and now the number of the word to be explained will be determined by the number on which the team chip is located. Team members take turns explaining the words.
  • There are also Party fields on the playing board. When a team token hits one of these squares at the start of its turn, a special method of explanation applies (see Party Explanations). Successful completion of the "Party" tasks entitles the team to spin the bonus "top" in the middle of the playing board and move forward faster!
  • The first team to reach the finish line wins the game!
  • Errors and omissions

If the explaining player makes a mistake - for example, names part of the word indicated on the card, the word will not be accepted and the team must make one move back. Therefore, each team should carefully listen to the explanations of the other teams. For example, if the team guessed 6 words, but the explainer made two mistakes, then the team makes a move 4 spaces ahead (6-2 = 4). If the word seems too heavy, you can skip it, but remember that for this you will have to make one move back. However, sometimes it's worth it as you can save time.

    Explanation of the Party field

Each time a team succeeds in successfully completing the task of the "Party" field, it has the right to spin the top, which gives bonus points (1-3). This means that a team can advance as many fields as they guessed words, plus the number of steps indicated by the arrow. The hourglass is used in the same way as in conventional explanations.

The team must guess the words with exactly the same prefixes, suffixes, endings, etc. If the team does not understand, say otherwise. "Alias" - board game, in which from 4 to 15 people can take part. Alias is a team game for explaining words. On his turn, the player draws a card and tries to explain one of the words written on it to his teammate, without using this word and its derivatives. If he managed to guess the word before the turn time expired, the command piece moves forward.

The main problem similar games - the repetition of tasks - Alias solves in a rather original way. Each of the 400 cards contains eight numbered words and phrases of varying difficulty. Also, from one to eight, cells on the field are numbered. Taking a card, the player chooses on it a word with the same number as the current position of his token.

Alias has been translated into 15 languages of the world, and the regional versions are often different. For example, each card might have six words instead of eight, or there might be special boxes on the field to allow teams to respond to an opponent's explanation. The main drawback of the Russian version of Alias is sloppy translation ("hound machine", "snow shovel") and numerous misprints.

    Let's start withclassic version

The game includes a playing field, an hourglass, 6 chips, 400 cards with words.

The translation of the title speaks for itself - say otherwise. The task is extremely simple - you need to explain the words from the cards without naming them.
    (Collapse)

And now about the rules and the course of the game in a little more detail. (I will talk about the version of the game that we usually play, it differs slightly from the description of the manufacturer's rules, but only slightly. Moreover, this kind of games implies that in each company the rules are somewhat transformed for people who constantly play this game)

At the very beginning, everyone is divided into teams (the number of players in a team can be any). Each team chooses a chip and puts it at the start. The word cards are in the center of the table. The team that will start the game agrees among themselves who will explain the words this time, the rest of the team members will guess. The player pulls out a card, the hourglass turns over, and begins to explain the words (and the order is determined by the explainer himself). For each word guessed by his team, the team's chip moves one step forward along the playing field. We advise that players from the other team move the chip at this moment, so as not to distract the demonstrator and guessing ones from the process.
But the team only has 1 minute. As soon as the last grain of sand falls, all other players who until that moment could not guess are included in the game. But a minute has passed and everyone can start guessing. And which team guesses the word, that one moves forward on the playing field.
As soon as all the words from the card are guessed, the "round" ends. The turn to show and guess goes to the next command.

When explaining the words, it is important to remember that the answer must be exactly as it is written on the card. For example, if the word "board swing" is explained, the players have to guess exactly that, it is not enough to say only "swing". We can immediately say that we are guessing two words. First he explains the first, and then we move on to the second. (not forgetting to fix the guessed first or second part from your team). As a result, the team names the correct combination and you can move on to the next word.

You cannot use the same root words. That is, if the word "swing" is on the card, you cannot say "this is what you SWING on." We can say that "it is always on the playgrounds and they fly high on them." Explaining the word "airplane", one cannot say that it is a "flying vehicle", because these words have one root. For each such mistake-reservation, the team's chip is returned one move back on the playing field.

However, you can use antonyms or synonyms. Moreover, you can say "the opposite of the word" big "(if the word is small on the card). If you come across a difficult word, then it is better to temporarily skip it and explain it when the time is up, so as not to spend all the time explaining it.

The first team to reach the finish line wins!

The set of this game includes a playing field, a rotating arrow for the playing field, an hourglass, 6 chips and 400 cards (290 with words, 96 cards with celebrities, 8 cards with emoticons, 6 cards with positions)

In this version, the players, as in classic Alias, are divided into teams and must also explain the words from the card. The explanation rules remain the same - you cannot speak the same root words.

What is special about this version? Let's try to figure it out.

The first difference that catches your eye is the "roulette" on the playing field, as well as the presence of special divisions on the field. If a team's chip falls into such a division, then just "new" cards will be needed, which are not in the classic version.

The red circle is the Celebrity field. Get a card from the deck with celebrities. On it you will find 8 names of famous musicians, actors, heroes of films and cartoons. Your task is any available ways explain to your teammate who in question

Yellow field - emotions. Take the emoji card. Words must be explained according to the usual rules, but at the same time the player must portray the dropped out emotion. Examples of emotions: scared, joyful, angry, embarrassed, hysterical, etc.

The blue field is the pose. Similar to "emotions": the player draws a card from the deck of positions and explains the words in the pose that came to him. Examples: standing with your back to the team, doing squats, patting yourself on the head, doing swallow, etc.

White box - tell a story. On this division, the player takes only one card with words and must explain to his team all eight words from this card in a minute, tying his explanations into one logical story.

If the team successfully copes with the tasks on the "special fields", then it gets the opportunity to spin the "roulette" and get an additional number of points (from 1 to 3)

The game can be a great addition to the classic version.

Alias Party also exists Travel option

    The kit includes:
    ... 300 family cards
    ... 180 cards for adults
    ... 20 task cards
    ... hourglass
    ... 8 chips
    ... playing field
    ... roulette

A distinctive feature of this version is that everyone here plays for himself. The game is focused specifically on the family game. There are "adult cards" and there are "children" with simpler words. Also, there are cards with tasks. And also fun penalties (for example, explaining words while standing on one leg or sneezing)

Before starting to explain the words, the player spins the roulette, which indicates his partner for the round. For each correctly guessed word, both partners move across the playing field.
This version of the game can be called one of the best, since it is really focused on the family game. If you like to play Say differently with friends, then this version will allow you to play your favorite game with your family at home.

The game includes a playing field, 6 chips of different colors (in theory, 6 teams, but if you want more, then the chip can be replaced with any small object), an hourglass and 300 cards with pictures and words.

Unlike the adult version of Alias, in the children's version there is one word and a picture on the cards, which allows playing the game even for those who cannot read.

This is a team game in which you need to explain to your teammates the words shown in the pictures.

Teams must have a minimum of two players, the maximum number of teams or players in a team is not limited.

Jokes aside! In this game, you will not be able to relax as much as in all the previous ones. Among the cards, there are none with words! Intrigued? Then let's try to understand the rules of this game.

The set includes a double-sided playing field, an hourglass, 6 chips and 200 cards (198 cards with letters and joker cards)

As we mentioned, there are no words on cards in this game. The cards have letters written on them. Players must form words in three different ways. The number on the field under the team token indicates how the word should be formed in this case.

    Passwords (both players explain)
Open 5 cards with words and turn over the hourglass. Both iroks must make a word consisting ONLY of the letters dropped on the cards. A blank card can represent any letter.
When one player composes a word, his task is to explain it according to the classic rules of Alias.

    Use all three
The player who makes the move reveals three cards and flips the clock. His task is to come up with a word that includes all three letters in any order. For example, with the letters OTP, you can think of the word PYTHON
Having come up with a word, the player begins to explain it according to the classic rules. When the word is guessed, the second player opens three more letters and thinks of a new word to explain.
When the time expires, the team can move its piece across the field by the number of guessed words divided by two

    Chains of letters
The explaining player takes the deck into his hand. The clock is turned over and the player places on the table two cards with letters one under the other, in two rows.
These are the first letters of two chains, which the explainer should make as long as possible.
He first explains a word that starts with one of the two letters. When the second player guesses the word, the explainer can take a card with a letter from the deck and place it next to one of the initial letters, thus continuing the chain. At the same time, he must think of a word starting with these letters.

The rules also contain a description of additional rules of the game.

Which of the games to choose (or maybe several) is up to you. But whatever you choose - it will bring a lot of pleasure to you and your children! On my own behalf, I will add that this type of game is my favorite, so we have collected several variations of this game and we play each with great pleasure. And, if all the cards have already been studied and the game has become a little annoying, then a great option to diversify it is to start playing in a foreign language.
